what do you use to design the ships?

I'm done with FTL, except in the case of my fanfiction set in a shared universe with Phoenix's.

Besides, my older ships were thrown together with no thought whatsoever, and only the new ones can really be counted.

I would take Gibs from existing ships for the older ones, and then used non player ships, and finally used Captain's Edition Ships.
