By the way, Sciguy, could you possibly make schematics for the ship? Stuff like system power and maybe interior?
I like the story so far. :)

If you want, I can handle this. Just tell me what you have in mind, otherwise I'll freeball it.

Me, freeballin' it:

ftl file (no gibs, nothing fancy)

Like it a lot :) Though maybe the cloak and the teleporter should switch places. 4 pad teleporter is a little unusual for a small ship like that  Other than that, good job!

Well, I'm lazy and about to go to bed, but if you want to, just load superluminal, load the .ftl file above into it, switch the rooms (and sprites, so the cloak console isn't on a door or something silly like that), and save it.

I'm sorry about the wait everyone, but I was pretty much bedridden with a bad flu for a couple days and I'm only just getting better today.

Skro entered the room where the two other crewmembers were getting chatty, or whatever humans liked to do. Skro didn't understand the need for talking so much. But then again, their minds weren't developed for telepathy. He sneered and rolled his eyes, letting out a sigh that was masked by the hiss of a door opening and closing as he arrived in the pilot's room. He situated himself in the seat, a nice one at that, and one that seemed to fit the user's race at will.

"Least I don't have to deal with a Mantis seat or something. But..." He took a glance at the controls, and gritted his teeth. 'Human controls.' He thought to himself.

To him, it was the equivalent of one of those "Automatic Cars" he'd heard about from human codexes. He preferred much greater control over his ship than human controls allowed for. But he'd deal with it. Just like everything else. There was one thing for certain: If there were a problem, Skro would always deal with it.

And that seemed to nearly be the motto of the day.

He pressed the button indicating the intercom, and it sizzled to life throughout the ship. "This is your Captain and Pilot, Skro, speaking. I trust that you all know your stations well enough and how to get to them. I'll be giving the ship a once over before we take off to make sure everything is..." He sighed again. "Up to standard." If one were keen at hearing, they could hear him muttering something about "stupid Rebel protocol bullshit." "Skro out."

The intercom faded out again and Skro began inspecting the room he was in. There could be any number of problems with this ship, saboteurs, bombs, stowaways, anything. And it was precisely this reason Skro hated not using his own ship.

Marsha awkwardly slid out of the engine room to take her station at the shield room.
As soon as she entered, the console blinked to life, displaying statistics like barrier strength and the current composition of that particular area of space. Naturally since the ship was in a spaceport, all those statistics were registering as 0%. Not even the basic micrometeorite deflectors were online.

The intercom crackled to life with the Captain's speech - she wondered if that Slug she had bumped into earlier was the Captain or if there was someone else as slimy speaking to them. She certainly hoped it wasn't the former - having a mind reader for a Captain meant a lot of trouble for her.

Trying to push those thoughts out of her mind, Marsha quickly ran simulations of the barriers themselves. Of course, she had no experience with shield technology beyond what the Rebels taught her and that it was something of a programming job.
"I'm not going to survive" she muttered to herself "The ship is going to get torn apart by giant alien spiders." She heard those arachnids were no joke.

ARKON started piloting the ship towards the merchant shop, the engines at half throttle, as to not disturb the crew. Suddenly, he had the insight of testing his crew with a simulation. Might as well test these people if I want to know their capabilities, ARKON thought. So he displayed a hologram in front of the ship, and then said across the ship "Federation scout incoming! Dan turn the engines to full throttle, Marsha keep those shields up and Skro, do exactly as I say." He wondered whether they would find that this is a simulation or not.

Name: Hycho
Age: 42
Gender: Male
Race: Engi
Appearance: Basic engi body, has a "pet" repair droid that follows him everywhere.
Personality: Logical, not supportive of federation after a kestrel cruiser crashed into his station, killing his best friend. Lived away from the war, and is thus not overly familiar with the Rebels, and is happy to work for them, as he doesn't know about the devastating effects of the rebels invading engi space. His best friends are his drones, and he often talks to them and shows deep caring for them.
Skills: He is an amazingly skilled worker when it comes to making and servicing drones, and his natural engi-skill with machines also make him a good mechanic.

He is currently attempting to find a job at a merchant's store, and hopes to find a place on a ship that passes through the area.

I'm so sorry about not being able to be on top of replies. I've been a bit busy with a potentially life threatening infection but I'm on antibiotics now and everything should be smooth sailing from here on out!

Skro was just about to step out and check the airlock doors in the hallway leading from the cockpit to the rest of the ship, when suddenly the ship's AI blared up a warning about a Federation Scout. He did the Slug equivalent of a human pinching the bridge of their nose, and rubbed his temples. "It's always something." He muttered to himself. Still, the prospect of a good scuffle left him smirking. He entered the seat and began to do the usual Captain/Pilot markdown list he followed: No Weapons specialist? Keep auto-targeting locked as best as possible, keep the enemy ship within sight at all times, evasive maneuvers when needed, keed the ship steady for the rest of the crew, etc. He noted the AI telling him to do exactly what he said, and while he wasn't too enthused at taking orders from a computer, he figured there was a reason why, and arguing with a machine wouldn't get him anywhere.

"Yeah, got it. Whatever you say."

"Weapons are charged! Skro, fire the Ion blast, then follow up with Dual lasers. Target wherever you feel like is the best."

Seeing the scout ship on the screen, Marsha's first said "What the hell? Where did that come from?"
Then she was told by the AI to keep the shields up. Like I was going to ever take them down and welcome death, she thought to herself.

With that in mind, she hurriedly accessed the shield modulator controls. She recalled that most shields had a configuration option for the deflectors depending where the shots were coming from. The right configuration meant less energy was used and therefore a faster-charging shield.

Of course, she didn't know that and instead accidentally pressed several commands which disabled the forward arrays instead. And it couldn't have been a worse time to have lost part of the shield.
If this was a drill, I'd be scrubbing out the replicator plates or polishing boots, she thought to herself worriedly trying to find out what she did wrong.
