Exactly what does the stealth ship have to reccomend it?

Postby ShadowDragon8685 » Mon Sep 17, 2012 9:02 pm

I'm confused on this point. It starts with crap weapons and a crap weapon system power maximum to match, three human crew (same as the Kestral,) it starts with a cloak, but pays for it by starting without a shield generator.

And it only has three weapon slots, not four? And only two drone slots, but you still have to buy the drone controller?

This ship is crap! It's not even a "stealth" ship - just about any ship can buy a cloaking device! It doesn't have any passive bonuses to stealth, or a passive evasion chance or anything.

What exactly is the point to starting with this ship, except roguelike masochism because the default start isn't hardcore enough for you?

I think the engine should have a higher evade chance to compensate for being crap all round.

It looks cool and it's fun to play. That what recommends it.

Other than that, yeah masochism.

Just focus on the alpha strike. That's its main advantage.

Do you want to play a ship that's focused on evasion as it's main line of defense instead of shields? do you like massive alpha strikes?

That's why you'd pick the stealth ship.

It can do fine, you just have to reverse your thinking from about any other ship in the game.

But it's no better at evasion than any other ship.

It doesn't have improved shields at the beginning, it certainly doesn't have improved power supplies. You can cloak to avoid one strike, but then you have to wait for the cooldown to expire before you can cloak again, which is lots of time for them to pound you again and again.

It's no different than a Kestrel with a cloak.

It needs something "else," something "extra." The loss of shields and the gain of a cloaking device aren't really a zero-sum game, since a cloaking generator 1 is materially worse than shields 1; and it takes it in the shorts by having fewer slots!

If this is just a thread to bash the stealth then let's not bother. You don't like it. That's great. Some people do.

It starts with really high engines and stealth and not shields. That's the whole point. If you don't like it play the kestrel. Every ship is not for every person. They don't need to be "equal"

They really do. Every ship should have the same chance. If something is taken away, something of equal value should be given.

It has some pretty nice gear to start, it's just all geared toward a playstyle you don't seem to like. That is, it's designed to fly evasively, rely on cloak for an alpha strike and emergency evasion, and shrug off minor hull hits. A drone system with a hull repairer would be really nice, but isn't really necessary in my experience.

If you use the cloak right, you don't have to watch them pound on you, because their weapons are either crippled or at least severely limited right at the start of the fight.

It's no different from a kestrel from a cloak, but any ship can fulfill any role; the main difference is how they focus from the start, giving you a head start toward your preferred playstyle.

I really don't see the problem. If you want a brawler that relies on shields, just grab a kestrel.

And in terms of materials, both the cloak and shields cost 150
