Ideas for Expansion or Updates

A larger map would be ace.

This game has a great potential as a free roamer. A vast randomly generated universe is an awesome prospect. with skills that need to be trained before weapons can be equipped. each crew member needing additional training to use ship systems.

Small Changes
Over Charging weapons, Two extra power yielding 10-15% to the stats.

Extra Races - Cyborgs/Cultist(space religion)/ancient race/[non-playable] God race.

Larger crew. - security officers that can't use ship systems, but have highest attack and movement. specialist crew members.

Voice acting for dialogue (the community will probably do this for free)

Endurance Game Mode - Gradually more difficult enemies in each sector - infinite sectors.

Manable weapons to defend against drones

Every ship system has a bonus when a crew member is present

Rebel Campaign - going through the galaxy trying to get more people to help fight the oppression of the federation. whilst fighting them off at key points, successfully gaining more rebel allies makes the battle easier.


Large Changes:
A free roam game mode. "Pirate" "Trader" "Federation" player type. start at the bottom; work up to larger ships and responsibilities. Shorten the current story line and use it as a tutorial part, so players can learn to use the new ships.

Give the quests a longer feel. travel and multiple stops. with a small chance for something bad to happen.

Game Lore - detailed breakdown of the races and their technology. items have detailed descriptions and names.

custom layouts with some systems that must be close or far from other systems.(medical bay far from engines and transporter, closer causes debuff)

Ship Crew training, crew must be trained to use ship systems properly, untrained crew cause damage and make mistakes.

Crew Gear - Items/Buffs - Crew members must be above a certain lvl to use them.

Multiple Ship Battles - 2v2/1v2 - this would be endgame stuff, and would need multiplayer.

I'd like a larger map with different exit points to different sectors.
New races, sprites, ...

More duties for crew members, giving crew Ranks, ... stuff like that.

All I see is great potential to expand an already great game.

I´d like to see gear for the crew and a few more abilities for more rpg style.

Weapons, Medics, (emergency) space suit, armor, repair tools and more.

And when boarding, why not bring it on an new screen for round based tactical combat?

crew experience history - while i might not expect all my crew to have some experience in ship flight or weapons or engineering i would like to see some character( like maybe some negative stats on weapons cause they haven't handled weapons all the much in their life or a mantis that's a skilled warrior already)

maybe even more crew abilities - i managed to find the crystal race once who had a lock down ability which allowed him to basically seal off a room quite useful vs boarding parties :). maybe more passive buffs to reflect some crew history ^

My biggest change i want to see:
Scrap pickups if enemy ship dies after bargain is struck - One time i was fighting a pirate in a asteroid field and i had disabled his shields and his weapons and he asked for a bargain (7 missiles, 5 fuel, 12 scrap or so) which i accepted since i was badly in need of fuel)(almost ran out tbh) and then after the bargain was struck the enemy ship promptly blew up from an asteroid. At the point i was like more scrap for me but my ship decided to ignore the flying space scrap and press on. Though one could argue since i was in an asteroid field and thus more eager to leave i shouldn't worry about scrap. Well this sort of happened on two other occasions, one time near a solar flare and one time just in open space both times i had accepted a deal and then their ship blew up due to fires neither time my ship collected scrap from the remains and both times i was eyeballing :evil: the screen and mentally telling myself to replace my non-opportunistic and deal bound captain out the airlock next chance i got :evil: .

As some people have already suggested weapons/crew skill training i was thinking it might be interesting if crew in the same room got a reduced amount of experience *helping out* the main guy/girl/robot/rockthingy/slugling at the console. I don't see why two mantises couldn't be duking it out over pizza in the medbay as combat practice goes.

Definitely more arming locations. why cant i a nurse/doctor on the medbay ready to heal anyone in the medbay. manning life support could help redirect airflow to where the crew are , or where they are healing the gaping hole in the ship. or if they are arming cloak/teleport a reduction on their cool down timers, and if they are at drone controls improved aiming or even firing rate or maybe even damage.

multi-step quests would definitely be nice :)

as for vigilant's idea of round based combat i don't really feels its necessary or adds much to the game play or the flow of the battle(the tense boarding action on a ship that your firing on isn't really there if you can pause the ship combat and wait for the boarding party to die or them to kill all the enemy crew. Also what if the enemy crew don't all come charging into the room your boarding party tele-d into? O_O

a sandbox mode/free roam mode would definitely be nice.

I definitely second custom layered ships though you have to play ship system tetris with the ship systems XD.

more weapons/systems such as some anti drone weapons or systems, maybe electronic warfare even , or maybe an weapon that drains enemy reactor power imagine the lols that would get XD

Hello everyone!
Longtime follower of this project and KS backer.
I have been playing FTL a lot since the GOG download was made available, as has my gamer wife.
She has made several suggestions that I thought I would pass on here.
1. Give an option to play in an "explore" mode. No fleet chasing you and not pressed for time.
2. Give an option to have multiple saves at once.
3. Please quit killing my whole crew in one massive event! :x

Yeah, she gets into games. :D

I agree that it does get very "not fun" at times. I really do like the game, but I feel like it was not balanced right.
We have both made it to sector 8 and died to the boss there.
I really like the basic game play and premise of the game,and I am very glad I backed it.
The game does need some changes to make it more user friendly.
This game as it stands right now is not one I would suggest that most gamers try.
It feels like a lesson in futility and just when you think that your crew and ship are doing great you fly in to a nebula and loose all your power but life support and get boarded my 6! mantis while their ship is pounding on you.
Game over man! Game over!

More bosses... This one is quite easy to destroy after 4 victories I have nothing to do but search for new ships...
(with Federation Cruiser is really easy to destroy everything)

Battle with 2 or more ships against you.

Maybe more factions that can chase you (slug, mantis, rock) ?

another idea: fighters that can be upgraded... so you will have one main ship and maybe 2 fighters.

These Ideas are sweet guys.

we need some arty types to make some "bio-mechanical" ships. I'm thinking a "Borg" style race for a extended campaign. you agree?

Using the O2 to flood rooms with toxin is an intriguing idea... thoughts?
