Would be nice if a dev or someone with an understanding of Latin came in.

Technically a few, you do have 'not serious' names in the irl military, navy, etc.

Eg first 2 nuclear bombs on earth: Fat Man and Little boy.
The Vickers Wellingon nik name is "Wimpy", named after the character from popeye.

There are way more different examples but I can't think of any at the very moment.

Seriously for all we know.

MFK may mean "MASSIVELY FAT KITE" I mean look at the bloody rebels n general? there ships point to point resemble some of the most popular kite shapes, and MFK fits the Flagships name of being big.

Also they ARE humans, so what we have irl here now, did happen technically on the timeline.

So MFK can be a meme, or a cartoon character, or a famous movie, reference, etc.

MFK = Magic Fish Killer (reference to multiple cartoons that involve magic fish, wish fish, etc i.e. tom and jerry, simpsons, etc)

MFK may not be an abbreviation, it can be (other things I do not know name, blame English being my 3rd language) More effective killer.

Can't think of eg but F and K can be first and last letters of a word (I doubt it would be F**K in this game, can be possible but in this kind of game with no offensive language or anything close before "I will kill you" then there is no chance)

or M_______F

or a compound word, M________ F_________

This is just to open some peoples eyes, or give the right idea.

They are HUMANS, for all we know this may be latin, French, maybe even a new language?
It may involve words from other races we don't even know about.

(this next part is about language and ftl aliens and codenames, can be skipped)

Just on a similar topic: I doubt all alien species in FTL can speak English. Engi: yes, for all we know they humans made them and they got self conscious for some reason (this is a different topic about engi's, I doubt there from humans but wouldn't surprise me).

We know from 1 event that a Mantis pirate couldn't come through the TRANSLATER to well but said some aggressive things. I doubt rockman would name there ship over a nearly dead word "Bulwark" which was an old word back a hundred or two years ago.

Doubt mantis will name there ships after earth reptiles.
Doubt crystal ships name there ships on human language words typically relating to crystals. I doubt they would have contact with humans to know much English.

Look at the surroundings, your 'Mantis Cruiser" is inside a Federation Hanger, the stealth ship doesn't have engi on them, they got humans, the engi A got a human on it, there are other ships with humans, it is likely the names are a 'Federation Reporting name", eg NATO name for some Russian jets are "Frogfoot, bear, blackjack, fishbed"
I doubt the Russians call it that.

MFK could be French, Italian, Chinese, what ever. maybe a new language will appear by then, a easier language so other alien species can learn the translator to work easier on there side. I forgot what was the official date for FTL but wasn't it 800 or so years from now? to make a new language, maybe English + Zoltan language? English was made up from tons of languages, it could happen again.

If it were MFW it would obviously mean "MOAR FRIGGIN WEAPONS", because if you didn't notice before, the rebels put a lot of weapons on their flagship.

I thought I remembered reading / hearing that MFK is the developer's initials. Could be wrong on that, but that's what the memory banks are pulling up.
