Because it's (essentially) impossible to do that.


Redo the crew sprites and floor layout to only have 2x1 (3x1, 4x1) rooms horizontally and you're set :) //am aware of the difficulty, but it's doable.

You forgot:
  1. Modify all enemy ships so your changes don't make them look bad, accounting for the fact that those ships will for some reason be shooting their guns up instead of forward.
  2. Only have up/down doorways in rooms that start with systems in them, so you can put ladders in those rooms.
  3. Do (2) for (1), or they'll look weird too.

I said "essentially" because I know it's possible. But you may not be aware of all the difficulty. Unless you're okay with it looking bad, which is weird considering this is all about how it looks now.
