Modding Reference Links [Modding Guides, Tools & Tutorials]

Postby Kieve » Wed Aug 28, 2013 1:41 am

The stickied posts have been getting a little crowded of late. In the interest of keeping clutter down, Ultramantis and I figured perhaps it's better to have a master list as the Working Mods do - which I used for reference in compiling some of this list. I've tried to cull some of the defunct, abandoned, or otherwise outdated links, but if you find something you believe should be on here, feel free to post it for consideration.

I wouldn't call ftldat outdated. When FTL Dat Manager failed for me, ftldat took over just fine. :P

Unsupported by its author, sure, but not outdated.

I think AtillaBosma's guide has been rendered useless by Metzelmax's guide, though. :)

ftldat is very usefull and still used by Slipstream unless i'm mistaken. That is why i didn't want to remove ftldat from the list entirely. Afterall it still works but for most cases DatManager is prefered and i thought this should be reflected in the list.

[outdated] may be a little unflattering to bas, be no disrespect was intended.

Slipstream doesn't use ftldat per se.
I only used ftldat's Python code as a reference, to write Java code from scratch that works the same way.

IMO, that new code is tidier than "datLib.java" which comes with DatManager.

What end users prefer for messing with resources is a separate matter. ;)

I've also written one other tool, the error checker, though it has stayed a bit under the radar of the modding community :P

Added, and I've removed the "outdated" tag from FTLDat for good measure. Honestly, I still use it in raw form to this day, for quick compile / decompile of assets :)

Meh, my AV tried to sandbox Slipstream to figure out what it did.

Of course, that didn't go anywhere...

Added NAOP's tutorial for shield images. A bit overdue, but at least it hasn't sunk off the page yet ;)

It's not my tutorial- I was a bit tired of making poor shields and having to use stock, so I asked for some tips.

I received more useful feedback than expected, and the thread quickly became an organized resource.
