Weapon timing, an idea

Postby Lifeforcer » Sun Jul 14, 2013 9:30 pm

Okay, I have no programming skill, so I have no idea how feasible this is.

Could someone make a mod that makes it so you can delay firing a weapon so that you can time your shots right on autofire regardless of their natural wait speed. An example of what I mean is if you have a beam weapon that fires faster than a burst weapon, but you want the burst weapon to fire first so that it knocks the shields down. The perfect world way to be able to do this would maybe be being able to drag the 'charge bar' and make it longer. Or just have an space where it prompts you for how many seconds to add to a weapon's autofire speed, and then the 'charge bar' would reflect it.

Does this sound like something that could be done? Either for the basic game or just for someone's mod? Would this kind of programming be violating any copyrights that the other mods don't? Anyway, those are my thoughts, I hope they were somewhat clear.

You can do it in FTL already... Just don't lock the weapon onto a room so that it doesn't fire as soon as it recharges. Wait for your laser burst to charge up, fire it, then follow up with beam after shields are down.

wait so do you mean that you charge up all of your weapons and then you fire? you just don't fire the beam weapon until your lasers destroy the shields

not trying to argue but in my opinion unless a mod like that came in a mod pack it would be kind of pointless in my opinion

By that logic autofire is a redundant feature. I would use what I described in most battles, so if something I would use all the time is useless, than I want useless things.

I guess I wasn't clear, because I wanted to make clear that what you described is already exactly what I am doing.

This is not possible with modding. Generally we can chance what stuff says and 'how much' (costs, damages, etc.) - but we can't change how the game actually works internally.

Even if this was in the game it wouldn't be as useful as you think it is. Shots miss. Beams should only fire when shields are down, which isn't always "3 seconds after the lasers fire" and is never "when the lasers fire."

I can see the appeal of the idea, I really can. But aiming and timing each shot is a skill and an art that is as much a part of the game as your rockman being somehow sliced in half by a mantis in a random event.
