Crew Rank Ups

Postby Villainy » Sun Dec 16, 2012 9:07 pm

What does ranking your crew up do? Or in other words, what effect do the ranks ups have? Weapons, Shields, Engines, etc. I figure it's probably something along cooldown, refreshes and chrage time, but I'm just checking.

If you go to the crewmember's name on the left, it will show his stats. You can hover over certain ones to show the bonuses he currently has.

Helmsman - evasion bonus
Engineer - evasion & FTL recharge bonus
Gunner - weapon recharge bonus (no accuracy bonus!)
Shields - faster shield recharge (no effect on ioned shield bubbles)
Repair - faster repair
Combat - deals damage faster

There are two ranks in each skill, indicated by one or two stars above the system display.

Are you sure there is an FTL recharge bonus? Doesn´t say so ingame I think.
I must confess I never timed my FTL recharge times anyway, so I wouldn´t know.

I'm not so sure now... it's definetly faster with a good Engineer but that may be because it is tied in with evasion somehow. On the other hand i can't test wheter or not the helmsman also provides a bonus to recharge (he does to evasion). Moving the helmsman either stops the engines or hands it over to the autopilot which adds a penalty.

I'm pretty sure the autopilot doesn't recharge the FTL at all.
Then again, I don't use the autopilot except in rare emergencies when I have an autopilot and I need my pilot to fight boarders and stop fires.

I will have an eye on this in the future.

As far as I know, the engineer and helmsman only give bonus to evasion. The FTL recharge rate only depends on engine power, and on augmentations you can find. Once the FTL bar is full, In order to jump, you need someone at the helm.

Yeah but the FTL recharge rate increases when you put someone at that station, hence the confusion.

EDIT - 'that' station refers to the Engine room, not Helm. Recharge does indeed stop if noone is at the Helm.

No it doesn't. The ftl recharge stops completely if piloting is unmanned. Manning the engines has no effect.

I can't be entirely sure, but it seems to me FTL recharge time is a reflection of evasion + FTL recharge boost.

Anything that increases evasion (more engine, pilot/engines crew upgraded) will also increase ftl recharge rate.

If you don't have a pilot, evasion goes to 0 -- so does ftl recharge. I'm pretty sure autopilot doesn't factor into this.
