I didn't know the Rebellion had Mantis under their employ, Ruwen thought to himself as the insect on the screen introduced themselves. "Well pardner, you see... I have no idea who or what in tarnation licked us. All I know is that this 'ere ship wasa hollerin' for help and I lost mine trying to help out. Everythin' is damaged but the Rockmen built their ships to take a good lickin'"

Maybe the Mantis is from one of those hives that worked for the Federation during the war and they just captured a Rebel ship as a trophy, Ruwen continued his thoughts, wondering if perhaps Resssa could check the intent of the Mantis as soon as it got close enough. Just how far can a Slug read thoughts anyway? I know they can sense life over great distances, but what range is their telepathy?

Okay, so this is our ship (the shield is normal, just green. It's not a Zoltan Shield).

"Badgers, huh? Pleased to be yours." Creeybo was intrigued by the way the hybrid used their duality to interface with the power couplings dangling from the ceiling. She wondered what tricks he had up his... circuitry? What were the inner workings of the hybrid?

While she wondered this, Creeybo responded, "Zoltan Shields, eh? While I'm versed in all things Federation, the Zoltan have always been rather, protective of the secrets of their shields." Creeybo stopped for a couple seconds, busy doing some heavy-duty processing, with all her systems devoted to it.

While processing, Creeybo felt something poke her, but a quick diagnostic of her emitter's photon relays found nothing.

Strange, but nonetheless Creeybo continued, "I figure... the Shield Overcharger possesses similar qualities, and I reckon the Zoltan Shield augmentation links up with the FTL Drive at a better power consumption rate. Come to think of it, the science vessel I served on years back did some research into this, and I reckon I have some logs back at my quarters."

Without looking or turning, Creeybo instinctively said, "Understood. Designation: Cr33-yBo, Sensors Specialist." Creeybo innately knew that an Engi wearing a rebreather of some sort was standing before her. Creeybo played back sensor footage of a few moments ago, wondering what just happened. "Wireless connection, huh? That must've been when I was committing to all functions to processing power. Try this." Creeybo relayed the previous digital connection request back at the Engi with the following message: "The name's Creeybo, what's your designation?"

You are a holographic being. You have proven to be able to wirelessly communicate with Engi. I prefer to communicate with others wirelessly, when possible. Verbal communication is strenuous and overcomplicated.

Yeah, I don't really care about that tiny flaw. I'll fix it when I make the ship a mod. As for shields, I just wanted to show you all the color of them.

Badgers saw an Engi walking toward him. It came up and tried to connect to him digitally, however the Trogis wasn't going to let just anyone in him. He simply ignored the request and waited for the Engi to talk verbally. Badgers heard the Engi ask for his position through the transmitter in his mask.
"My designation is Captain of the 0o2-ZSC, the Flagship of this squad. I don't know if that makes me leader or not. Do you know if there's a legit General commanding us?"
As he spoke, Badgers noticed a few sparks coming out of one of the wires he had touched. He pulled it down and examined it with interest, then inserted the wire into his hand, just to see what it would do. An overview of the ship came into his vision, showing the system layouts and their basics. How weird. He thought. This ship is full of surprises.

"Error. Your designation is invalid." Error said. "You stated your authority/rank. I was requesting a designation. Most specify Engi designation as 'Name.' What is your 'Name,' Captain?"

Error studied this peculiar life-form. His integration of Lanius metallic-biology and Engi technology was most intriguing. This creature had the processing power of an Engi, but did not require oxygen. It could interface with ship systems, as many Engi could. Peculiar.

"On the topic of 'legit General.' From my understanding, we are an alliance between Federation and Rebels - our mission to examine the unidentified hostile threat that has recently entered our galaxy. The captains of the three ships, Rebel, Federation, and Rock will collaborate together when deciding on major decisions. A 'Captain's Union' of sorts. Is this system of organization acceptable? The Rebel ship will serve as combat. The Rock ship will serve as Cargo. This ship will serve as our fleet's flagship. Do you understand this system of command?"

"It variesss from sslug to sslug, Ruwen, but none can ssensse thoughtss between normal ship distancess." As the rebel ship got closer, Resssa could sense more of the crew's thoughts and emotions. "I believe that mantisss was placed in charge ssince there was no rebel captain willing to take the position. Alssso I believe your transslator is malfunctioning." The rebel ship docked with the rock cargo vessel, and Resssa could now sense more clearly the minds of the crew. "The mantisss sseemss frusstrated with the crew, underssstandable with a crew of rebelss. We should go and greet her."

Resssa slithered out of the room and down to the airlock where they had docked. "Hello Kaditaxixaxxe, your assssisstanssse isss unnecesssary, I believe we can handle oursselvess."

"...I see. The Oriole has seen similar damage. We will be there shortly."

Kadita left for her ship's airlock not long after the Rock ship's occupants did. She tapped a couple crew on the way through. Both humans, of course, a meek male (what stock did these Rebels draw?) and a more promising female. Both disposable, in her opinion. If they switched ships, she wouldn't mind.

She swore the ex-Rebels were trying to prove themselves by throwing as many of their people into the mission as possible.

When the airlock doors opened, she decided she was glad the Slug was friendly. She'd just finished cleaning her blades. No point making a mess. That, and a Slug could provide great insight to whatever these things that were invading thought. Lanius had been bad enough, and they only wanted scrap. The gut scrapings that dared shoot their way into this galaxy and force the Mantis to what whisperings said was the brink of extinction? They'd be lucky if Kadita let them survive long enough to get into the Slug's range.

She nodded to the aliens - seriously, what was with the shiny Rockman? - and gestured towards her personal aliens, the two humans who stank of discomfort and some amount of fear at being around more than one non-human. "If you do not need our assistance, I can simply offer two of my crew. I find my ship has extraneous people. If you two are alone, I am sure you can put them to use."

"Translator malfunction?" Ruwen said out loud "Dangnabbit, Douglas did tell me Federation translators couldn't pick up me tone very well."
I wonder what happened to that man though. I haven't heard from him since his promotion...

He lumbered towards the Mantis."It seem like we could be usin' a mutual exchange dere pardner" he explained, looking at the nervous Humans (although considering his translator, they'd probably start laughing). They probably haven't even seen a Rockman let alone their ancestors, he thought to himself, somewhat amused. The Crystal was tough but his body was designed more elegantly. He was not as bulky or as tall as the Rockmen but he did stand over the aliens before him.
"Can yer got into contact with anyone else in dese here parts, friend? I get da feeling we're going ter need a lot more people." he gestured towards the front of the ship "I think we'll need to round up an Engi or two to get the teleporter and communication consoles in tip-top shape and lickety split."

It's sort of a running joke with me that all unknown entities have a voice straight out of a cowboy movie. Because the squeaky voice for the intimidating or big guy isn't as funny as an inexplicable cowboy accent. Especially when it makes no sense for a translation device to be designed that way.

Resssa gave the slug equivalent of a frown when Kadita offered the two rebels as help. "Yesss I think an engi would be enough to help uss. I don't think we will need either of thesse rebelsss on thisss ship." He shot a glare at the two crewmen behind Kadita. He knew that they partially knew why he didn't want them there. (That's a tough sentence. )The rebels had decimated a lot of "alien" worlds in their time. "I believe there are ssome engi on the ssstealth ship. Maybe they can help uss after they have fixssed their own ship."

Resssa turned and went back into the cargo vessel. He slimed up to the piloting station and started work on the ship, still angry that there would be any rebels within a sector of him.

While Error requested for the hybrids name, he used his secondary processor to send a message to Creeybo.
There are others involved in our mission. You, this hybrid, and myself will not be managing this fleet alone. We should meet up with them, to further discuss our mission. To locate them, you can use your wireless link with the Sensor System. Agreed?

Now, Error waited for a digital response from Creeybo, and a verbal response from the hybrid.
