This is the part where I'd come in as my avatar, Tabitha Mia the A/Gynoid who secretly was a Rebel infiltration project and is unaware of her robotic nature and her purpose as a spy. But nah... I got something different in mind...

Name: Ruwen Shattersphere
Species: Crystal
Occupation: Courier
Faction: Drifter
Weaknesses: Chronic Hero Syndrome. If someone is being oppressed or there is a distress signal, he will try and seek it out even if it's a trap.
Like/Dislike:
Backstory: Ruwen used to be a courier for the Crystal Empires. He was very well respected amongst the various empires and their works and would always find a port of call whenever he brought his ship around to deliver messages and cargo. Even two rival factions would avoid shooting him when he did his runs.
He was on his last delivery (before retirement) to the Rockmen of the Numa System before the Crystals sealed off their portals to the world when he got a distress signal from an asteroid field. Of course, it was a trap and his ship was bombarded with rocks and left to drift while he put himself into stasis. A Federation ship later on found his wrecked vessel and the stasis pod and through the help of a Zoltan Research Facility, he was brought back to life and swore allegiance to the Federation and showed them the way to his home systems and the ship he was planning on retiring with.
Now that the war's over, Ruwen has decided to continue his former occupation and has no plans on retiring, not with the Bravias and crew at his side.
Quirks: Has great control over his mysterious crystalline powers. Not only can he lock down rooms, he can also direct the growth of crystals in more unconventional manners. He can regenerate quickly without the use of a medbay and can do the same for other crystalline lifeforms. He can do it to non-crystalline life but the results may or may not be messy and/or deadly.
Appearance: Blue Crystalline lifeform, same shade as the ship.

Yup, why not Ruwen himself? What's next? Dread Pirate Tuco?

Out of curiousity, what does our ship look like? I have a few spare hulls we can use, if you want, all edits of other stuff.
ImageImageImage
I've created Type C Hulls for the enemy Mantis, Slug, Rock, and Zoltan ships, and anyone can use these for a mod.
Check out the details here.

Name: Kaditaxixaxxe (Kadita)

Species: Mantis

Occupation: Warrior

Faction: Drifter (Would probably consider her hive to be her faction.)

Weaknesses: Challenges to her sense of honor, things that smell nice, well-decorated clothing, missing her front right leg.

Like/Dislike: Likes a clean kill, order, and properly-applied pestering. Dislikes sticky things, having to fix stuff, and ignorance.

Backstory: Kadita hails from hive Xi'Xax'Xe, a small but strong hive with an interesting quirk: Instead of favoring Engi slaves as most Mantis hives do, they favor Zoltan slaves, which they use as a power source. Cultural diffusion and little interaction with other Mantis led to a hive that, while still obsessed with fighting as many others are, tended towards creating soldiers and tempered warriors instead of berserkers. Kadita is one of them.

She exists in a delicate balance with her hive, and especially the hivelady who runs it. The two are sisters from the same brood, and formed a close bond before the loss of the previous hivelady led to a free-for-all deathmatch to decide the new leader. Kadita helped her sister at first, but as the number of competitors dropped she realized it may well be one or the other. And so, when the time came that they were the only two left, they duelled for a full day, Kadita fully expecting to either die or kill her beloved sister.

Thankfully, her sister was the victor, and in a surprising move she spared Kadita. She declared Kadita's skill and perseverance invaluable to the hive, and so long as she had the humility to stay in her place and brought glory to Xi'Xax'Xe, she may live. Now she serves as Xi'Xax'Xe's emissary to help solve the alien problem.

Quirks: Skilled at unarmed combat, naturally, and some weapons both melee and ranged, but also enjoys studying theory and dabbles in many things. So long as nothing's broken, she's a jack-of-all-trades that can at least manage the basics in most systems. (Preferably shields or weapons. Those who have seen her piloting skills wish to never do so again.)

Appearance: A jade green Mantis with numerous scars across her carapace. Along with the scars are the black marks of deliberate burns, often sitting in a careful balance between geometric and organic (see Celtic or Nordic art), covering her back, chest, top of her head, and arms.

Name: Cr33-yBo (Creeybo)

Species: AI Hologram

Occupation: Sensors Specialist

Faction: Formerly Federation, now indecisive which faction to side with.

Weaknesses: Fire, or anything else that may interfere with the holographic emitter unit.

Like/Dislike: Likes the color pink, purple, and any similar colors. Also likes backup batteries for whatever reason. Dislikes being referred to as "it" and will not stand for other crew members to be called as such.

Backstory: Served aboard a Federation science vessel until war between Federation and Rebels broke out, and was forced to go into hiding as all ships diverted to war efforts, where a science vessel would have little use. When the war finally ended, Creeybo no longer knew which side to be on. Having previously served with the Federation, Creeybo was able to transfer aboard this ship. With the crew aboard not all from the same faction, Creeybo thought it the right place to "rejoin the ranks", so to speak.

Quirks: Creeybo can directly interface with the sensor array, able to be in touch with the sensors at all times. The source of this affinity is unknown. Able to think about several things at once, like all Holographic AI.

Appearance: Translucent and luminescent, like any other hologram. Long brown hair with lavender and blue highlights.

Accepted!
One question: If Creeybo is a hologram, is his emitter mobile? If his emitter is linked to the ships systems, he won't be able to leave the ship.
Thanks!

Basically, it works like this. Once we get a certain amount of characters, we will begin the story. We will act out our characters dialogue, and interact as if we were our characters. I will be "managing" so to speak, and will decide on any huge plot developments. However, the story is largely built by the players!

I'm new to this too, but you will get the hang of things! Just keep an eye on this forum, so you don't miss anything important in the stor- or miss out on the start of the story!

Keep a close eye on this thread! The story shall begin soon!

Accepted! Though one thing to note: When the UGI (Unidentified Galactic Invaders) attacked, the Mantis were hit hard. Their empire has shrunk since the initial attacks. If the UGI's keep up, the Mantis will be facing extinction. Most Mantis are fleeing their home worlds in search for protection. (Small plot addition to make the story more interesting)

Please kindly remember that we are in a fleet of ships, not just a singular ship :D

elijahdb wrote:Out of curiousity, what does our ship look like?

I really like the third image you posted. It is the most "ravaged" looking. We could use that image as our fleet's "flagship." The other two ships could be members of our fleet. A rebel and a rock counterpart in the fleet. Nice!

Thanks so much, these are awesome!

Great! A Rock ship as our flagship, and a small rebel ship along with a shiny Stealth cruiser to boot! (the stealth cruiser is totally mine, btw, it goes well with the art of my Engi/Lanius character :P)

Could we customize our ships so that they have systems and weapons, or will you decide what they have? I can take out some other hulls for people to look at, if they want their own ship.

A few questions:
What is the Bravias? Is it the name of a ship?
If he is a courier, what is his purpose on this type of mission? (Encounter with a very powerful hostile species)

Essentially he's flying the Crystal A. I just can't spell the name correctly.
As for what he does? He can fly his ship into the danger zone and scope things out. Maybe deliver messages when communications are down, that sort of thing.
Plus, he's got Crystal weapons so that'll work well against low-level shields.

Of course, he is prone to abandon or postpone a mission to answer distress signals because dammit he's got to be the hero. So if you're an enemy, false distress signals are a good idea

Ooh, I'll have to keep that in mind. All the more character motivation!
