The Rebel's Secret Weapon

A short story which might make you question something burning in your mind about the game.

Captain John Doe was on a rampage throughout the sector with the Red-Tail. It was hard not to be when your ship was armed with some of the best weapons the galaxy had to offer.

He sent a barrage of burst lasers flying straight into a Rebel fighter who was frantically hailing him not to destroy his precious ship to no avail.

“That’s another load of scrap, fuel and missiles Captain” said the Engi Valaria.

“Of course. Now we can afford that extra bit of reactor power” John said, spinning up the FTL drive and heading to the next beacon. He wondered what kind of threat he’d encounter once he got there.

When he arrived, his sensors spotted three Rebel ships flying past. John assumed that one of them would break off and attack and he’d destroy it. It happened in all of his previous encounters so this one wouldn’t be any different.

“Greetings Federation scum. You think you’re so tough, taking on our fleets and coming out victorious. Well we’re going to put an end to you and your ship!” a Rebel Captain hailed him "For we have a secret weapon you'll never see coming!"

“That doesn't scare me!” John said, laughing "Bring it on you Rebel bastard!"

He stopped laughing though when the Rebel said “All three ships, destroy this pest.”

"Sonuva..." John said as a barrage of missiles, lasers and boarding drones slammed into his ship while he tried to fire upon one of them.

The Rebels looked to each other quizzically as the Red-Tail exploded before their eyes. “Well that was easy. Who knew he couldn’t take on all of us at the same time?”

The Captain asked “Why did no one ever think of doing that in the first place?”

I like how other ships at least fire their long-range cannons at you sometimes in Advanced Edition. Slowly, ever so slowly, they're learning.

Actually the ships are not firing their cannons at you. The description of the ASB says they're planet-based.
