The Solar Dancer

Postby faustus » Sun Sep 16, 2012 7:38 pm

I gave my crew titles (in my head of course). I know that seems odd. Also this is long I know. Please red though
The Story of the Solar Dancer.

I had just lost my 5th kestrel to a solar flare. Numbers 1-4 had died via critical hull failure, death of the entire crew from a boarding party, or both as was the case with number 3. Number 5 had died due to a solar flare taking out my Oxygen, engines, and door controls all at the same time. All three held what remained of my crew (the captain was in the door controls, engineer in the engine room, etc). The fires killed them all. This happened to be my 6th system and the rebel fleet was at least a whole system behind me (nebula/mercs keeping them entertained).

So when I got my new cruiser I decided to name it in honor of how the good ship Kestrel 5 (yes I named them like that) went down. I was hoping maybe the name would help bring her good luck. I hoped she would "dance across the stars" ahead of the fleet. So the Solar Dancer was made.

Some how the ship lived up to her name. I stayed literally one beacon ahead of the fleet till I got to the base yet they never caught me.I had gained a few new crew members over my travels, like Ti Lok the stoneman and Stick the Mantis. Ti Lok would stay in the O2 room and deal with fires in that area. Stick was stationed on the bridge to keep boarding parties out should need be.

By this point Weapons Engineer Williams (the Engi I had first put in the engine room/weapons room in the start of the game) was untouchable in both, Shield Operator Permaroy(the other Engi who was the ships repair specialist and another original) was amazing at his jobs,Captain Johnson could evade like no other, and Ti Lok and Stick could kill whole boarding parties by themselves. Ti Lok had become a pretty good Engineer so he was the replacement for Chief Engineer Williams when the Solar Dancer got into battle.Stick was just my goon. It was this time that I got the No redshirts award.

The Last Stand went better than I expected. I got a lucky missile hit on the Flagship's shields early on and the Ion blast/drone kept the shield down. Then it happened. The crew of the Flagship got on board. I sent Stick, Johnson, and Ti Lok to the corridor in front of the weapons room (I had already evacuated the Oxygen from the other side) I knew they were going to die but if they could just hold off long enough for Williams to get one more missile off we would win. Sadly just as the missile was fired Ti Lok and Johnson both died. I knew that Stick could not hold them off alone and if the missile missed they were all dead. I closed my eyes and waited for the upcoming GAME OVER. But it never came. The missile had hit and destroyed the flagship. I was yelling for about 20 minutes and in my joy I forgot to get the score.

Thus ends the Tale of the Solar Dancer
