Defense Drone II?

Postby actionhero112 » Mon Sep 24, 2012 2:28 am

I hate it. It sucks.

Ok, let's back up, I like the idea of the the Defense Drone II. Being able to shoot down everything? Awesome. However in practice it hardly makes any of my ideal endgame set ups, because of it's habit to not shoot down missiles. Often times, upon the flurry of a barrage of weapons on my space fairing vessel, the Defense Drone II will shoot down a laser, which my shields could handle easily, then during the cooldown period, a missile will bypass all shields and cause massive havoc on my wet-newspaper-like hull, just because of the misguided ability of the Defense Drone II to shoot down lasers. Because of this fatal flaw, I will generally sell my Defense Drone II in order to buy a Defense Drone 1, because of latter's reliability on shooting down missiles. My shields can generally handle the lasers.

So I kind of want to hear you guys' opinion/experiences with the Defense Drone II. I know it works well with the Defense Drone I, but when you have the Defense Drone I and shields, your defense are pretty secure. Rather put the four nuclear power in engines or weapons instead.

Yeah I hate that, especially when it is trying to shoot down the lasers fired from enemy attack drones, and missing.

What i hate about it is, when im in a Astroid... because the laser will MISS the astroid, cause its to far awary (other side of the ship), and everything else hits me >.>

Yup. I never use it. I'd rather have a mark I than a mark II, and with the power cost you can have two of em if you find em.

There are cases when it's useful.

Last night I beat the game on normal using the Fed cruiser. I had a defense drone MK 1 and a defense drone Mk 2 going. That actually really helped with the end-game, especially the drones.

It does sometimes let a missile go through, but I feel that the amount of damage that it can stop from a laser-heavy opponent makes up for this.

I have personally never noticed or cared that missiles were getting through. It's stopping something on a regular basis and every little bit helps endgame.

Can always go for two def I's if you want.

I agree, there is nothing worse than seeing a Mark II shoot down a laser shot that was going to bounce off the shield harmlessly anyways and then let the missile right behind it get through.

Mark I > Mark II.

Yup.

Unless I'm also using drones for offense, I would much rather have two Defense I drones. Even if I only had 1, I'd rather have a Defense I over a Defense II.

SOMEWHAT OF A SPOILER HEREIN: Def drone II is also really good on the end boss (last stage) since it can reduce teh ridiculous shot count of the super weapon by two or more sometimes. It's really very good.

Making a suggestion to have it prioritize missiles wouldn't go amiss, but :"boo sux" isn't really useful/helpful.

Personally, I prefer one of each - when missiles aren't flying, I'd like laser shots to be stopped, so that I don't have to pour all my scrap into the last two shield points, while the Defense, Mk I reliably stops the missiles.
