So I played for an hour during my lunch break.
I played 3 games and got killed easily all three games. Guess I'm doing something wrong somewhere...
First game I got boarded right at the start and could not repel the invaders and everybody died. Where is the auto destruct system? LOL
Second game I jumped into a star and the ship burned to hell while the crew dies of lack of oxygen.
Last game the ship against me I could not beat their shield and they just blew me up.
I'm using the weapons from the beginning Missiles and the laser.
I usually start the battle with a missile on their shields then use the lasers on their weapons and after that anything I hit them with they die. Is that pretty much the way to do it?
I never seem to be able to get enough scrap to buy anything good. I did buy a slave once... Cool Orion slave girls.. hmmmm
What's a good strategy for a newbie on easy getting his a$$ kicked?

First Game - Remember always, that you can heal your crew in your MedBay and also, that they'll be healed even if they're fighting, so fighting means, that you'll win allways. And also press Space to pause the game and think about a plan, wich fits most to the actual situation.
Second Game - Actually, you should open doors (by clicking on them, but your doors controlsystem needs to be intact) to get the oxygen out of the rooms with fire. Don't be afraid of the rapidly sinking Oxygen-Level. Most times, if your O2-Room isn't damaged, then it's a very safely and common tactic. Also works with enemy intruders, if you want them to get to the MedBay (they always run to rooms with Oxygen in it, but be carefully not to kill your crew^^)
Third Game - Actually, the Rocket-Laser-Combo is very strong for beginners and even if you get better. But to get enough scrap for everything else, you never should rush every level but stay as long as possible in one Sector to maximize your Scrap income. And if possible, you should kill their crew (via boarding or some weapons) to get some bonus Scrap wich will be very usefull if you're not that experienced. And try to go through many Nebula Sectors, its just hard for the first time, but you can visit more Beacons, while the Rebel fleet is following you with half speed (and most of the time, the sensors are useless anyway, except if you're boarding^^ but if you get experienced in it, then you even don't need it there).
And if possible, never buy a chance and fight them. Most of the time, they will offer a Slave to you, wich you can get without paying Scrap.
And try to Pause as often as you need to, so you can plan your next steps without making to much panic steps, wich can punish you very hard somteimes

Re: newbie playing for an hour
With the missile/burst laser combo, i tend to wait till both a charged then missile the shields then either follow up with the laser, either targeting weapons or taking the shields out if they are only partially damaged. The shields will suck up damage from the lasers so if you can keep them down it pays dividends on later bursts, i'm usually happy to take a bit of damage at the start of a fight for the advantage of being able to have a free hand to dish out some serious damage later on, especially if i have the luxury of being able to pick which systems i can take out in a salvo. If they are repairing stuff too quickly between salvos try firing a shot into their O2 to divert some of their repairing effort away from the big targets.
