Favorited Tactic

Postby Targetstar » Sun Sep 16, 2012 6:01 pm

I just wanted to ask all of the "Pro" or people who are good at this game, on what there favriot tactic is.

Mine

I use the Drone Ship (easy to get) Type A
I use the Ions early on to level my guys up to 2 stars, which takes a while.
I only use Drones if i know im might get hit, unless im bored and have the Drone Recov aug, then i just spam them.
I use the Ions, to Suffocate them to death, or if its easy, i have 4 dudes (even though teleporter has 2 slots) and kill the ships form the inside out.... quite effective, and the ions are handy dealing with that Med Bay.

this is my Favorited tactic, though can go for the worse when you can't find any good stuff >.> and sometimes all 4 of your guys go by by.

I like to turtle up and let my artillery, drones, or breach bombs take care of my opponent at my leisure.

Mine is to either go all lasers with the Kestrel B-type (A pain to get, but worth it for those starting lasers) or to get the mantis cruiser and level up the transporter and shields to kill out the crew and get max salvage. (Got a great run with the kestrel B, almost beat the game, but that final phase's shield stopped me for long enough to do enough damage past the 4 shields)
Personal fleet: Kestrel A & B, Engi A&B, Stealth A, Mantis A&B, Federation A&B, Slug A, Rock A, Zoltan A&B and Unidentified A.

Most of the time i'm just shut down their shield and Weapons with Ion Blasts and then i use the beam to finish them or when i already bought the Teleporter i send them some Mantis to handle with them, as long as i can shut down the MedBay. later on i just need to buy some lasers, but its possible to use this tactic till the end.

And my second effective tactic is to buy a Fire Beam instead of an Teleporter early to let the enemy suffer even more^^

I have two tactics:

1. If the enemy ship has a medbay: Focus fire on shields only. When shields are down, keep laser fire on it for hull damage, and redirect ion weapon on their weapon systems. Quickly turns most enemies into a impotent, shield-less punching bag.

2. If the enemy ship doesnt have a medbay: Use ion cannons to disable weapon systems, keep healing beam autofiring on one enemy room, teleport in some tough guys. A skilled teleportation assault squad can easily defend a 1x2 room against unlimited numbers of enemies with a healing beam keeping them topped up. With no medbay, the enemy troops cant cycle fighters through and stalemate the battle.

Obviously this second tactic is basically utterly useless for boss battle.

I usually knock out the shields first with a missle, then the weapons with a burst laser. If they got drones that do bitchy things, (Anti-missle, sys repair, etc...) I'll take that out after I disable the weapons. At that point I'll keep firing until it's destroyed. My default strategy when using the Fed Cruiser, seems to work pretty well most of the time.

I remember one time though, I just had an awesome setup with a fire-laser where I pretty much was able to ignite every room on a ship in a couple of shots. That was epic fun.

I have two tactics build up for now, both with Kestrel.

1. Laser and Beam/missiles

Battle begins, active weapons:
- 2 burst laser II
- 1 Missile launcher (Pegasus or similiar one that needs 3 energy bars)
Inactive weapon:
- 1 Pike/Halberd beam

First barrage:
Missile and the two burst lasers bring down their shields and damage the shield system.
After firing the missile launcher I deactivate it and activate the beam cannon.

Second barrage:
Both burst lasers keep firing on the shield systems, either to keep it down or to bring it down completely.
If the shield generator is damaged leaving the enemy with 2 shield layers or less the 2nd laser will fire on other systems like the weapons array.
Pike/Halberd beam fires on weapons and nearby systems.

Third barrage and later:
Same as second barrage.

Result:
The enemy ship is easily destroyed without much of a chance to counter attack.
You won't get as much ressources, capturing the ship gives more.

Flagship battle:
You'll need a defense drone II, hull repair drone and a teleporter aswell as 6+ crewman.

2.Ion cannons, missiles/beam and transport

Battle begins, active weapons:
- 2 ion cannons
- 1 hull breach missile

Inactive weapons:
- 1 beam cannon

First barrage:
The ion cannons bring down the shields and afterwards the missile goes for the shield generator, in order to hope for a hull breach, making repairs almost impossible.
After the first shot the missile is deactivated in order to power up the beam cannon.

Second barrage:
Ion cannons go for weapons array and medical bay (if there is one) two crewman are beamed over and start attacking the crew.
The beamcannon is an additional weapon that not only damages system, but also takes a lot of hp from the enemy crewman hit.

Third barrage:
Ion cannon only to keep important systems down. Mainly weapons and medical bay, or engines if the enemy tries to flee.

Result:
A lot more ressources scavanged from the mostly intact shiphull.
Lots of experience for the boarding party, and your shield operator. (especially if the battle takes longer than expected, but due to damaged systems the enemy can't damage your ship)
Downsides are that the battles may take longer, since your goal is to kill all crewman and your weapons operator might not get a good amount of experience, since he has to stop firing before destroying the ship.
Always try to stop firing with lethal weapons if the enemy hull reaches 3-4 points.

Flagship battle:
This might take longer than before, but it's pretty easy to destroy most of it's weapons arrays.
Just don't forget that the doors on the flagship are heavily fortified so your crewman can't run if they're low on hp while killing the main hull's crew.
Also the weapons operator on the middle left has to stay alive, the gun is the worst the ship has and if all crewman die it becomes an ai controlled ship.
A fully upgraded cloak is quite helpful to avoid the special attacks and a 4 layer wide shield protects you while the cloak is recahrging.

Going to try out other ships now...

Ok tried a new tactic.... prob the most fun i ever had.

Mantis Type B.

have the 4 mantis (if avalible) invade the hell, and disable there shields/ weapons 1st (dean which is more important)

have Mantis at Max Shields, and mabey Engines if need to

Use Ion Weapons, and Lasers (i had Halburg which just destroyed even the capital ship at the end by disableing there shields and makeing the crew run in circles)

Borders, well 4 Mantis with fighting 2 stars... vs 7-8 Crew on mother ship... i won... well sort of. i disable there stuff just enuff to make it go down (common stuff, not shield), but had to beam them back, but with Medic Bay 3, i can go in and out quick, so i basicly kileld the mother ship from the inside out. FUNNEST THING EVER,.... except when i see a auto ship
