I give up with the nisos

Postby KomissarBojanchev » Sun Dec 08, 2013 9:53 am

Its impossible on normal difficulty where every ship makes you miss 30-40% of your shots, almost always has 1-2 artemis missiles and an attack drone all on sector 1. The Nisos's weapon loadout just can't compete especially since 80% of the time your weapons get destroyed in the first few shots. The meager missile and scrap supply don't help either on normal. I think it all grinds down to utter luck with the nisos for it to land on a heavy lazer one or ion in sector 1-2. In all other cases its utterly doomed.

Well it's kind of that way with many ships aside from the federation ones, I only have unlocked niso, rock ship, zoltan and engi, but those don't have good lasers either. Either too little firepower or missile reliant so it takes luck getting early weapons. The nisos is just harder because you have to buy shields as well so it's a dice roll whether you'll have money when you find either.

I can't tell if you're talking about the Nisos or the Nesasio. Nisos should be able to acquire 50 scrap for a second shield quite early, even on Normal. Also, its artillery should never miss and make it possible to destroy any ship, provided it doesn't run away first.

Now that I re-read it, it actually does sound like more of a Nesasio complaint.

And In that case, I have 2:

Don't think the OP fits the Nesasio - mentioning own missiles being in short supply, and enemy Artemis being problematic where stealth ships have bigger worries.

The Nisos is weaker than average, but games should be reliably winnable - there are more luck dependent ships.

Our weapon loadout isn't good at knocking an enemy out of the fight quickly. On the upside, nobody can claim immunity even if we don't find useful weapons. This favours a more defensive build - with sufficient shields and a defensive drone where applicable, we can wear down anything without expending lots and lots of missiles and/or power.
Power and ammo management are important. Sometimes it's better to leave the artillery beam off until we took out weapons that can hurt us, at others we're better off taking hits instead of expending missiles.

The Nisos quickly runs into problems against ships with 2 shields (unless you've picked up another weapon to add to the dual laser). The Leto is next to useless, and even against a ship with only one shield you're counting on both dual laser shots to hit to do just one point of damage. And at the same time, you're taking damage because you've got low evasion and you're waiting for the beam to charge up, and assuming it doesn't get hit and require repairing/recharging, quite often it doesn't hit the systems you want it to (shields/weapons) and even when it does, its still only one point of damage, and most of the enemy weapons are still active and they've still got at least one shield up to block the next DL salvo. And you've got a crew that ain't the best at repelling boarders and a layout that makes it awkward to defend. (though they aren't the worst starting crew, providing other advantages) If you get lucky-ish and get a D drone with your drone system purchase and a second shield up early, then yeah, you can 'turtle' and let the beam do its stuff - fully upgraded it is potent - and with something like an H-Laser I or Ion Blast I in place of the Leto the Nisos can be seriously kick-ass - but getting getting to that point without blowing a fair chunk of hard-earned scrap on repairs instead of upgrades requires some seriously good management and more than a teeny-tiny bit of luck. On Normal, I find it one of the tougher ones to get a win with; cumulative damage and/or a lack of firepower in later sectors would be a typical end; flip side is that wins are often cakewalks with big scores.
