finding out that there is no rock home world to take the crystal man is half of the fun of unlocking the ship.

why would you want to be able to do this in one or two attempts?

One or two?

One or two?

My 3rd attempt through the game I had the crystal guy and was in the right place but didn't find the wormhole :(.

Part 2 -- Every time I've found the researchers, it's been on a plain beacon

I've found the pod twice in one game, in red and green sectors.

Pod and researchers are also findable on adjacent jumps within the same sector.

I think the achievement weights it too much toward goal-oriented playthrough. Without it, you could be playing any ship, any difficulty, and suddenly finding the stasis pod think hmm, let's look for this thing. With the achievement, it's not like you'd turn down the opportunity to unlock the ship if you could, but suddenly it's a shame if you're not using the Rock ship to do so. Kind of sucks, imo, because the result is that I *am* running playthrough after playthrough on the rock ship, rolling those dice, again and again (still no joy). And because it's so goal-oriented, I'm not enjoying the playthroughs like I would.

I've done 50+ runs with the Rockman ship now. No luck getting the Crystal Ship yet.
Only three or four times have I even gotten the damn crewman.

Guys. You're asking "I need to find wallet full of money lying on the street".
You don't go out looking for wallets. You carry on with your life and you *might* find one.
Finding a wallet is neither your life goal, nor a requirement to have a successful life.

Just as ANYTHING unlockable in this game.
The goal is to beat the rebels, not to have most pimped up ride in galaxy.
Your ride is useless, if rebels are winning.

I'm sick of ppl writing "my strategy is to send the crystal guy...". It's like "I'm going to win the lottery, then...".
Winning the lottery or unlocking something is not a reliable requirement to base your plans on.

Go on, fools, loose all your money in the casino. Loose all your fun grinding same quest.
Have you bought the game to get entertained or to get frustrated?

I've done everything else in the game. I've beaten it multiple times with every ship (both types), gotten all the achievements, etc.

The only thing I'm missing is the Crystal Ship and the achievement for the Rock Cruiser, which I've been doing over and over countless times.

The method for getting this is just too damn random.

I was reading this thread and found the information to be very helpful. While using the Rock Ship I managed to get the Crystal Crewman to the Rock Homeworld sector and to my dismay I could not find the portal (despite having long range sensors and delaying the rebels by using a mercenary). Frustrated I continued reading this thread and stumbled upon your post. And I have one thing to say to you...

Bravo.

Well, I just want to say, that I managed to unlock the crystal ship on my second Rock Curiser run, so i don't know what you are all complaining about. :D

jk, I realise that this is the hardest part of the game, and I was INCREDIBLY luckly to get it.
I wasn't even trying to unlock the ship, I only had just got the Rock Curiser.

And if I didn't find this ship, I wouldn't spend endless runs trying to find it, I have better things to do with my time.

Good luck to everybody out there who is trying to find this ship, you will need it ;)

Ahhh I hate you man! Good for you :)

Managed to snag the pod and crewman in Engi controlled sector 3 just now, but the only two red sectors afterwards were rebel and pirate! Fail.

I wish the sectors were labelled when you view the sector map, would be good for normal runs to plan a way through (or hit things they haven't seen before) and for us trying to get the ship.
