I highly suggest the following free Indie games:

Brogue http://sites.google.com/site/broguegame/

I always have had a hard time with ASCII and games that didn't make good use of the mouse. Rogue-likes have often had both those issues - and Brogue doesn't. And when you see the colours, oh the colours... It makes ASCII pretty. Its all of the fun of dying with none of the hassle. <3

Rogue Survivor http://roguesurvivor.blogspot.ca/

This may not be ASCII or mouse friendly, but it is IMHO one of the best zombie games out there and not the least of which is because it is a rogue-like. Trying to hide away somewhere in the city, squirreling away supplies, just watching the turns tick by is a riveting, tension filled experience in a way few other games have managed to pull off. How long will you survive?

No its not that hard, its complex because there is so much feature, but in average its not that ahrd to get into, well if you did it with DF, its a piece of cake with cataclysm.

Fist few guy may die in horrible fashion but that how you learn :D. There is a few start-up guide wich help immensly and a bunch of tips laying around in cataclysm forum.

I've really been enjoying Liberal Crime Squad, though it may be too American in its slant and political jokes. (It's kind of a tongue-in-cheek take on what it might look like if conservative pundit ranting about the "secret liberal agenda" were actually a real thing.)

It's got kind of a steep learning curve, but it also has a wickedly dry sense of humor at times.

Also, PrincessRL, but that's probably because I liked Princess Maker. It also has a surprisingly versatile and complex combat system.

We've had a couple others already. I'm fond of the Russian one spamming the forums right now. I'm sure the mods will be on it before too long.

Seems like a very interesting game to say the least. I'll give it a try later. Are the graphics all screwey for anyone else?

If you guys like this game, check out the sequel to this game: Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space (I think). It actually had a pretty big influence FTL's original design. Plus they made a port for iPad which works quite well and is a lot cheaper than the original version, for whatever reason.
If you're having hull problems, I feel bad for you son. I've got 99 problems but a breach ain't one.

Do you know of any plans to make it iPhone compatible? I can't be bothered to shell out the cash for an iPad proper.
