Both Nethack and Crawl allow for vi keys (hjkl), but there's also the option I used to use, which is the arrow keys plus 1379. Not the most intuitive, but I could never be bothered to learn vi, so...

its pretty easy to learn you just need to get used to it. Once you are it feels pretty natural to move with the keys and its easier on your hands then the arrow keys.

Fun, fun game. You progress downwards through a dungeon while fighting hordes of monsters because god told your mom to sacrifice you.

Seconded. TBOI is a great little action/adventure rouge which was inspired from the NES original Zelda.
Give it a go, you will not be disappointed.

Dungeons of Dredmor is a lot of fun and Crawl (DCSS) is a solid choice.

ADOM is one of my favorite games ever. Incredibly deep and challenging game... it took me four years to successfully finish the game, so it's rather not for the casual gamers But if you take the time, this is as true gem!
