Best Ship?

Postby Groudon12321 » Wed Oct 31, 2012 2:52 am

I'm a relatively new player and I'm just wondering what the best ship to beat the boss with out of the:
Red-Tail
Engi Stealth cruiser A and B
Engi Cruiser A and B
Slug Cruiser A
Zoltan Cruiser A

Best of the ones you've listed are the Red Tail and the Engi A - Torus.

Red Tail gets a Zoltan, Mantis and 2 x Human crew, and the four basic lasers are probably the best starting weapon combo of any ship. While only 1 power each, having four weapons with identical - short - cooldowns is great, at least until you starting meeting ships with 3 shields or more, and hopefully by then you have found/purchased better weapons to replace one or more of the basic lasers with.

Torus gets the Ion Blast II to start, one of the best weapons in the game - add any laser or beam to this early on and along with your attack drone you can roll through the early sectors.

The other ships on the list can be great, IF you get lucky. These two ships need less luck to go further

Definitely the red tail. It's got great weapons, great crew, and no real weaknesses. It's almost like putting the game on easy :)

My first win was with the Zoltan A.
Find a burst laser or ion weapon and you're golden. If you can bring down a ship's shields even for 1/2 a second you can cut it to ribbons with that 2 damage/room beam (can almost always hit 4 rooms).

Zoltan B is better than Zoltan A, in my experience, due to a great starting weapon set-up.

Of the ships you've listed, though, I'd say the Red Tail is the best. Even if you swap out weapons quickly, having four weak weapons instead of, say, 1-2 strong ones means your weapons specialist will max out his skill faster than in any other ship.

I'm partial to ships that start with a teleporter (or the Slug A), considering how much better the rewards are for taking ships intact.

Red-Tail is probably the most consistently successful ship out of the ones you listed.

If you can unlock the Zoltan B, I believe that one is the absolute best ship in the game and I am confident I can win with it 100% of the time (now that I fully understand how to make the best use of the Ions).

Finally! A fellow Zoltan B fan! I feel like nobody appreciates that ship.

I'll throw another vote in for the Zoltan B. also one of the easier alternate ships to unlock

The zoltan b is easy to get. A lucky encounter with an unshielded auto-scout, which are common in sector 1, can get you the shields holding achievement.
The Manpower one can be easily earned by heading straight for the exit and running when possible.
