A question About Programming FTL

Since the Game was brought up from C++(Check if I am wrong),I wanted to know how hard it was to program. (I know basic JavaScript and Python). Let's Say I fire a laser @ the rebel flagship, does every possible direction the laser could hit a room need to be programmed? Or every possibile movement of of crew on your ship?
