Am I allowed to send FTL to a freind?
I have the DRM free version from the FTL website. It says the game is DRM free, does that mean I can send the game my freind who wants it but cant afford it?

Not really. DRM stands for Digital Rights Management; it's an anti-piracy measure that game companies use. Nowadays, DRM doesn't really tend to work well unless it's very invasive and sometimes harmful, so some companies (Like the team behind FTL) just leave it out as a way of showing respect to their customers. This doesn't mean it's alright to pirate it or help others pirate it, even though being DRM free makes it easier to pirate.

Thanks, I presume sending the steam key is ok then?

No.
You've bought one copy of the game. The fact they're nice enough to give you multiple ways to claim that one copy does not give you the right to start giving copies out to your friends.
If your friend wants a copy of the game, someone will have to pay for it, anything else is legally piracy.

That would technically probably be okay - it's your key, you can do with it what you like. It is only usable once, though, so you won't be able to get the game on Steam as well with it. I do strongly advise that both of you buy the game, however, in order to support the developers, as buying the game once but really getting two copies is not the real spirit.

Normally I wouldn't try to send the game to a friend, particularly not this one, but his parents tend to be somewhat harsh.
If its any better I just heard my other friend bought the game from the website, thought it hadnt worked, then bought it off steam aswell. So I think he might have some FTL to spare...

I can totally understand you, and I'm not sure whether I wouldn't do the same thing. It's just a difficult question, as one could argue this was a case of damaging an indie developer, which seems quite unfair.
