Huge FPS Problems

Just purchased on steam and upon start up, I am having huge FPS problems and mouse lag. Any Idea on what could be causing it? My system can handle specs with ease so I'm dumbfounded. Occurs both in Windowed and Full - Stretch mode.
Edit 1: It runs fine up until I enter the actual Main Menu.

Hard to say without knowing anything about the platform you're running it on. Works great on my NVIDIA GTS 450 with fully updated drivers, if that's of any help.

A lot of the FPS problems on GetSatisfaction have been related to graphics drivers. As geldonyetich said, make sure they're current.

Try and get your Nvidia control panel to FORCE V-SYNC. That can sometimes help.

I am currently on a HP Pavillion dv7-6135dx because my desktop is out of commission. Just downloaded the newest driver for my graphics card but no fix.

I had this problem in windowed mode but not fullscreen. I do currently have vsync forced to "always on" in the nVidia control panel, though - have you tried that?
