A few suggestions...

Postby fconolly » Thu Sep 13, 2012 9:01 pm

Is there anyway to check what the achievement unlock requirements are once you start a game? If not there should be...

I would love to see equipment for crew members. For example:
Vacuum suit: immune to oxygen loss
Fire suit: prevents health loss from fires
Extinguisher: speeds up fire suppression
Repair kit: speeds up repair
Medical Kit: heal other crew members in the same room.
Personal Teleporter: teleports crew member to medical bay on critical health (even from enemy ship: single use)
Weapons and armour for hand to hand or ranged combat...
Bombs: to plant in boarding missions to take out enemy systems...

I would like to see longer skill paths or even skill trees for crew members. Perhaps racial specialisation in different areas (Mantids: weapon control and combat, Rock Dudes: shields etc)

I would like to see skill progression (and stations) in the drone area (faster drones?), medical bay and other areas.

PLEASE can you let us choose which crew member to commit to mission so my top skilled pilot is not randomly killed by space spiders or disease! This could be paired with the equipment ideas above to great effect I think :)

Also I ran into a problem with a game where I was using the number keys to select weapons and accidentally selected an option in a dialogue box that popped-up (I accepted the surrender of a ship that I wanted to destroy). Seems it might be worth deactivating the use of number keys with dialogue boxes, or introducing a re-mapping.

Wow this is actually a cool idea, and would make a great update in the future. :-) It would create more "character" for your crewmembers, thus making them more than just a name and a race.

I like the idea of a kind of skill tree with abilities maybe for your characters that you choose between as they rank up, so for example if your pilot gets a level then you can choose to either increase dodge chance or decrease charge time for the FTL drive.

Also something that would be nice and would fit with your choosing guys for missions would be the ability to set your characters a station. So you can have a person set to be the pilot, shield engineer, weapons technician and all of them and then have a return to your stations button so that you can send them on repairs and then quickly send everyone where they should be. Then it would also be that anyone that has a set station on the ship wont be sent on a mission if one arises.

You could also have like people set to a kind of repair group kind of like a control group in some RTS so you for instance just press say the R key on your keyboard and all of your repair people are selected making micro management in a battle a little easier.

This all seems cool and all... but that's it. It seems to be buffs for the sake of buffs. Suggestions for the sake of suggestions. They don't seem to bring anything to the game. They don't solve any problem or unbalance. They don't even seem to be fun. If the enemies get to use them as well it would just be frustrating. If they don't the items just seems to be too powerful.

I would like to see skill progression (and stations) in the drone area (faster drones?), medical bay and other areas.
The guy manning the medbay: will he be healed as well or will he just be operating the equipment without getting healed? First option makes him redundant, second option causes problems and will be frustrating and cause issues when you have small crews and still need to man other stations.
How would the doctor even gain experience?

The devs like the randomness that you can't choose who dies in those encounters. It's not likely to change.

You can already disable the number keys from selecting alternatives in the pop up messages. Go ahve a look in the options menu.

Something that I would like to see enabled?
Using your teleporter to go somewhere on your own ship!
For some reason, you can teleport all the way to an enemy ship that's flying around yours in battle, but you can't use your teleporter to whizz your mantis/assault squad across your own ship to hit boarders!

I'm not really seeing that effective, since it doesn't take that long for crew (especially mantis) to move around the ship, but I guess it would only make sense (especially around depressurized/fire areas)..
I always have this great idea to post about when reading a thread, but I always seem to loose the subject while writing a reply, and end up not saying anything at all. I should sleep more. Is that a cookie?

Would be very effective for a rockman fire fighting team though ;-)

I do have a particular suggestion that I would love to see implemented, and it wouldn't really harm gameplay in any way.

I'm a visually-impaired gamer with a bit of permanent tunnel vision, so I can only keep my vision centered on one part of the screen at a time, whether that be the HP/Fuel/Missile/Drone indicators, the Power indicators, the ships themselves, the Weapons readout or Drone readout, etc. Pick one of those, and then imagine not being able to see anything else until you switch over to it, wherein you can't see the item you just left looking at.

I would love to see a small feature put in that, when weapons reach full charge, an indicator is given somehow that's easy to catch. Different pitched tones, a computerized voice indicating which weapon system has charged, etc. As for watching the weapons on the ship, watching those requires even more focus than just looking at the big picture for me, so I wouldn't be able to watch anything else. That would be problematic if, say, a fire broke out somewhere. I basically play with AutoFire turned on and play like an AI would. Weapons charged? Fire them NOW. I then react to all the non-weapons stuff since I can't keep an eye on weapons and play the game normally at the same time. It's worked for the most part, though I haven't gotten a game clear on Easy difficulty yet.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here since there's already a thread, rather than starting my own suggestion thread and cluttering up the forum.

Firstly, that's pretty depressing to hear, but I really agree with you in some points.

Right now, I can hear a noise playing when the FTL drive have finished loading, so I would imagine it not very hard at all to add more noises to everything. Say, a beep for the primary weapon being finished charging, two (of the same) beeps notifying of the secondary weapon, and so on..

This could probably add to more flashy noises when one of your systems get brought down. I don't know how much out of this tunnel vision you can see, but I'm guessing that a row of blinking energy bars would be enough to get your attention and thus allow you to fix whatever is causing the problems.

Lastly, seriously abuse your spacebar ;)

I have only one minor complaint/suggestion:

PLEASE let us save the names of the crew members and the name of the ship somewhere. I really don't want to rename them all everytime.
