[Suggestion] Co-op?

So a friend and I stumbled on FTL via Kickstarter (well I stumbled on it and showed it to him) and we literally have fallen in love with this game. It is the embodiment of awesome. It is totally original and I personally feel bad I was too late to contribute to the donation by a few days, although being funded over 2000% of the mark kind of removes the feeling.

Anyways, we were wondering if any form of co-op could possibly be implemented, maybe two ships working together in the same game for whatever time being they decide to play together. I'm not asking for multi-player, because clearly the game wasn't designed with that in mind, but Co-op usually doesn't infringe on the core aspects of the game when implemented. Usually.

Having a second player to micromanage the crew or operate a second ship would be interesting; I'd like to see how that would be balanced out in difficulty.

Co-op sounds quite interesting! It'd be nice to relegate tasks between the two, or perhaps even set up options that deliberately limit the extent of control (one player can only control crewmembers, the other can only control the ship's weapons, power management and door systems). Anything that encourages players to post Youtube videos where it all ends in complete and utter hilarity is well-worth it!

I think co-op is worth while, I know a few people that will only buy co-op or multiplayer games :)

Glad the suggestion is being taken upon(I'm the friend who suggested it). Co-op could be a very interesting experience, where 2-4 players help each other either within the same ship, or in different ships. A small group of ships going around and doing various missions(some of these missions would likely have to be scaled in difficulty to account for the fact that multiple people are fighting on the same team) would be quite enjoyable.

It would certainly add extra value to an already incredible looking game.

While I think it's a good idea, it would be difficult to implement for a 2 man team. Firstly because (from all accounts) net code is a bitch, secondly because it may add some balancing issues. I personally can't think of a good way to have a local co-op control scheme (as it's a very mouse centric game) so that would limit it to online only. As for balancing, I think it would be harder with two people as opposed to only one doing anything.

It's a neat idea that would add some value to some folks and untold hilarity to others but it would have to be added after the fact, I can't see it being added before release.

Multiplayer in the form of co-op or combat isn't an appealing feature for me in this kind of game.

I'd rather singleplayer get completely finished before multiplayer is even thought about.

First off, they are talking about it, doesnt mean it will get in, or not, at realease or later, but for myself, i would like to see cooperation where we both work on the SAME ship. IE one take care of combat while the other manage power/crew stuff like that. Balance issue? i dont see any. I mean in SP you can pause, in coop you cannot thats how i would balance it.
