There is this one mission, where you have to defend 2 tanks. These tanks didn't have power, so you could not control them.

However, after I did a turn reset, I suddenly found that I could control these two tanks. Making it a very easy mission.

Were there 2 turns left? That's what happens in that mission.

If there were more, then a save game and / or a screen shot would benefit.

Really? I didn't see any notification/text to indicate that. So it felt random...

There is a popup, but it's brief. One of your pilots or the CEO guy says something, and there's a sound, and I think the two tanks are highlighted for a second.

Just got the mission again, indeed got the control of the tanks at a certain turn, not because of the rewind function.

As I was paying attention this time around, I did notice there was a message, but I didn't notice what it said. As it was quite quick, and in general, those messages are just "set dressing", like your pilots saying that they are awesome.
