The Infinite addon requires Captain's Edition. It just extends the gameplay, allowing you to take as much time as you want to reach the end.

Infinite Space doesn't require any other mods. It doesn't extend the gameplay, but prevents progression, so there is no end.

There are other differences, but I can't name them all. You'll just need to read the first post in each topic or try the mods to see how they differ.

I've only played Infinite Space, but from a technical standpoint, I would say that the Infinite addon for CE is better, as it has more variety. Maybe that is why I made the vanilla version, FTL: Extended.

I'm having trouble getting the mod to show up when i attempt to select a mod on slipstream mod manager. I don't know if it matters but the file is downloaded as a winrar archive.

It didn't seem to work, I renamed it to "Infinite Space.FTL" and put the archive into the mods folder but it still doesn't show up.

The file you download, whether it is the original 0.5.3 in the first post or my 0.5.A3 AE update from the previous page, should already have the .ftl extension. It is just a renamed .zip file.

It appears just redownloading the file on a different browser fixed the problem, thanks for the help anyways though!

I can't get the game to start after patching the mods into it. I keep getting this error message.

=====================

Assertion failed!

Program: steamapps\common\FTL Faster Than Light\FTLGame.exe
File: src\rapidxml\rapidxml.hpp
Line: 1383

Expression: text

For more information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts.

(Press Retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled)

========================

I'm playing the Steam version if that helps.

I don't know what that problem is, but I'll copy and paste a common solution here. I don't know if it will help.

Do the following:

  1. Go to SMM/backups, delete data.dat.bak and resource.dat.bak

    1. Steam users:
      Steam -> Library -> right-click on FTL -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache
    2. DRM-free version users:
      Reinstall FTL (remember to back up your profile!)
  2. Launch SMM to create new backups
