Yes, you should create a company (but you do not need to as far as I know) but you can create one yourself. And for the advertising... A publisher will only help if they see money. And that is where I see the problem. It is a niche game and there is not that much money. FTL was a huge success and they did not need advertising from a publisher. Create a great game, build a big community (wait until at least b0.1 to have a good start and then tell everybody about it) and you will succeed without a publisher. If you want a publisher, create a great game, hope that they think the same and hope that they do not try to influence the game to much. But it is your choice...

Be that it may, there may be a few youtubers with a respectable fanbase willing to give a the game a shoutout. Slim as that is, it may be the best bet if you go without the publisher.

The game was built by a community, why not try to make it mainstream by expanding the community.

(BTW, havent got the chance to try out the new release yet, DLing now) 8-)

I would try it, but the bigest problem for me is that to get any money from steam - you do need to open a company.
And register it in the US tax office. And that's a bit hard to do where I live.
There are alternatives ofcourse like the itch.io - where you would only need a paypal account.
But I don't know, I'm very new to this kinda stuff.
And doing everything alone is a bit overwhelming as it is, not to mention adding this stuff on my head.

Latest update:

1. If All goes well the a0.4.2 version will be out today.

2. It will have some cool new features, handy small thing and some bug fixes.

3. Again I would like to ask for anyone who played the game - to leave your feed back:
1. Did you like the changes in the new release?
2. Which changes did you like and/or dislike the most, and why?
3. What is your over all impression of the game?
4. What would you like to be added in the game next?
5. Also I'm planning on adding a help screen that is shown by pressing F1, - What do you think should be shown there(apart from Game controls)?

Catlas: Hak86, I have comments id like to make about the game
1. Perhaps a little too difficult
2. Things are too expensive
3. We need some way of being able to retrieve our ship and/or scraps when we die
and I lost everything XD

Version a0.4.2 is out: ;)

Changelog:

1. Press enter to close chat window if nothing was typed
2. /shiplevel command available to all crew members
3. New chat mode DECK - sends messages to only those who are onboard the same ship as you are(if you are in space - message not sent)
4. It is now possible to send private messages to players who have space chars in their names, in /PRIVATE chat mode.
If you want to use the /to command then in the receiver name replace spaces with underscores.
5. Traders now sell more ships. And they are more custom now.
6. Pressing the "/" button will open chat window with "/" character already typed.
7. Fixed a bug that required adding crew members with case sensitivity
8. Special characters are forbidden in player/ship names
9. Fixed a bug that would crash the client if you input too big number in take/put scrap window
10. Shields recharge bar is now shown near the shields circles.
11. Fixed trader w/o door(again)
12. Added buttons for jet missiles, jet drones,
13. Added messages when player goes online or offline
14. When sending a PM to player that is offline - you will be notified.
15. Fixed trader with no shield
16. Engines and HD now charge while in HyperSpace
17. Engines now give evasion power 1% per active power bar - if shooter is too close to target then no evasion for target
18. Added Battleship to trader's stock(but it's rare)
20. All Ships now have more HP.
21. Interceptors now have less HP, but they fly better.
22. Rebalanced prices.
23. Player station now have starting ships shop
24. Systems drop chance is higher now.
25. You can now select chat modes with /GLOBAL or /G, /LOCAL or /L, /DECK or /D, /PRIVATE <name> or /P <name>
26. While in one chatmode you can send a quick message in another chatmode with /chatmode message command
Exmaple: While in chatmode /LOCAL, you can type /g Hi all. To send message Hi all. in global chat and remain in local chatmode.
