Iceburg's Homeworld Development

Postby iceburg333 » Mon Jul 15, 2013 6:14 pm

When I first played FTL, I had a flood of inspiration and mod ideas. I started writing them all down, organizing them, and working to figure out what was possible. Since we can't mod most of the game (other than xml files) I worked on figuring out what could be done by modifiying save files, and found ComaToes and Vhati's awesome open source save editor.
I started learning java so I could apply some of my save modifying ideas, and have just released my first Java program, Spacedock, which is like a savegame manager.
Spacedockis the first of hopefully a handful of mods that each build on the previous ones to culminate in "Iceburg's Homeworld". Now that my first mod is released, I plan to use this thread as a WIP thread where I ask question, discuss ideas, and keep people updated (as well as with my facebook page, which you can get to by clicking my logo in my signature). I'll also link to all of my released FTL mods from this thread.
Hopefully next I'll release a 'game document' giving the outline of my mod ideas. :)

Good luck. You have some nice ideas there. Switching ships midway throgh has been requested a lot!

Thanks UltraMantis!
That's good to hear, I had no idea it was requested, but hopefully that means it will prove useful. :D

I've started work on the next phase/subprogram of Iceburg's Homeworld: this will be a warehouse where you can store items you've found during your playthrough in a warehouse/cargo bay. Then, when you want to use them you can transfer them from the cargo bay back to your/another ship. This will be useful for offloading excess weapons you can't use, say, before fighting the rebel boss, and then starting the next playthrough better equipped.
More like cheating than Spacedock, since it makes FTL slightly less Roguelike. But you're still facing the same risks and still earning the parts, so I personally am fine with it.

I seem to be building this phase in reverse. I've started with the GUI and then will be working backwards towards functionality. The background image is almost done, and I've got functioning tabs to switch between the subprograms:
