[SHIP] Sideros (Lanius Custom Cruiser)

No prerequisites or conflicts (hopefully)


The Sideros is a 'pure-lanius' ship which cannot install an o2 system. Included is a unique railgun weapon which can penetrate shields and causes hull breaches. Utilise lanius boarders and well-placed breaches to suffocate your enemies, but take care of your crew, as additional lanius are in short supply...

Fits all systems but O2.

Graphically it's all up to scratch, with proper room graphics, cloak, shield, gibs etc. It's drawn from scratch so it doesn't look perfect, but overall I think it's passable compared to the official lanius ships.

Signature weapon: Railgun mark I
Image Adapted from classic lanius designs, this railgun requires more power and deals less damage than its laser counterparts, but its hypervelocity projectiles penetrate shields and breach hulls.

Overall it's an interesting loadout. The railgun is strong for boarding early game, but for 2 power it feels weak compared to flak and burst later on, which I think is a nice balance. Systematically draining the air from enemy ships with the rail, hacking lockdown, and boarders etc is extremely satisfying, but losing a single crewman is devastating. Likewise, finding an additional lanius for sale is huge.

I'd love to hear any comments on balance. It took a while to come to a decision on the railgun stats, and I think it's in a good place. I was going to add an augment, maybe mantis pheromones, but decided starting with the teleporter instead was more fun. In a couple of test runs in normal I've made it to the flagship, but not beaten it yet, so it seems to be pretty well in line with the other ships for me ;)

The railgun isn't purchasable, it's supposed to be kind of a 1-off special weapon. But playing with it more I think it might be balanced enough as a purchasable gun, I'm thinking about making a small custom weapons pack that would include it.

And I just did a video run with this ship. Holy Crap!
It is badass, like Shrike Badass.
Although maybe it was that Sonic Blast I picked up that did it though... but eh, I had a wonderful time.

I'd have a question: have you considered an "alternate" version with a 4x Teleport Room and Clone bay? (swapping stealth sys. room with teleport should be easy).

I'll gladly use your ship for my next run! 8-)

Just so you know, 4-person teleporters are overpowered. So having an alternative with such a system would probably upset the balance.

They can be under several ( = many) conditions:
1) crew of 7 or 8 members (with 1 slug)
2) multiple systems you don't need to use
3) clone bay maxed out
4) teletransport maxed out
5) Reconstructive Teletransport augmentation installed
6) enemy ship big enough to send all boarding party in one room

Otherwise I don't consider it "op".
