This mod strips all ships of their crew and equipment and lets you browse and buy all items in the game on the first beacon. If you want to challenge yourself by using a unique strategy that requires a specific set of startig equipment or just want to mess around with your dream equipment right from the start, this is the mod for you.

There are 3 versions of this mod: Vanilla AE, CE and CE infinite, each with a limited (350 scrap) or unlimited scrap version. BYOS CE is fully compatible with Captains edition, BYOS CE infinite with Captains Edition with Infinite Addon.

Changes since the last update:
  • Compatible with CE and CE infintie
  • All ships are now available
  • First attempt at balancing the prices
  • Starting budget raised from 250 to 350
  • the ton-of-scrap versions now have a menu item that lets you add more scrap

Download Vanilla AE:
BYOS v1.0
BYOS unlimited scrap v1.0

BYOS Vulcan patch (not for CE)
Just load it as the last mod.

Captains Edition:
BYOS CE v1.0
BYOS CE unlimited scrap v1.0

Captains Edition with Infinite Addon:
BYOS CE Infinite Addon v1.0
BYOS CE Infinite Addon unlimited scrap v1.0

BYOS CE infinite adds an augment "BYOS Shop Licence" that allows you to access the shop. Please sell this item at the fist store, or else you will get prompted after every deep space jump to enter the shop again.

It should work fine with CE endless loot, but you won't be able to buy the modified items at the BYOS shop.

This is fascinating. I've wanted to build my own thing, but Superluminal isn't up yet, but this is the next best thing. Brilliant idea, wonderfully executed. This one's a big keeper. One thing: I can't seem to find the Vulcan Autolaser in the weapon list. Note that this may be me just being blind. One other thing: Neither of the Lanius ships have shop licenses.

WIth CE+Infinite+BYOS(CE Inf. Version) the game locks up anytime it goes to jump to another beacon while doing the initial shopping. This is on OSX with the latest version of all of the above mods.

On a positive note though, the new update is great! And the menu is much easier to navigate now that it is properly organized. Awesome work as always.

EDIT: The crash doesn't happen with just BYOS or with just CE+Infinite. Only with all three. CE+BYOS work fine on their own except that it looks like a lot of the weapons/augments/etc aren't being added when you buy them. For example - missile flak, oni missiles, radiation emitter.

It seems that I am unable to purchase a Vulcan on the CE Infinite with infinite scrap.

Yeah, i've overlooked the vulcan in all versions. I'm going to fix that soon. Sorry about that, i know it's one of the communities favorite.

I've already created a patch for the vanilla AE version. CE/CE_infinite will follow soon:
BYOS Vulcan patch (not for CE)
Just load it as the last mod.

@captaincannibal
I've had reports of similar issues and i'm going to investigate it. I couldn't reproduce the issue yet, but i think i'm getting closer. Hopefully i can fix it soon.

Any chance of a disabled fleet version? I'm wondering since these mods conflict(and it's even worse if you order them BYOS -> disabled fleet, you get the stripped starter ship and no BYOS shop!)

Great mod! But I'm having trouble with the Lanius A ship. The mod on CE Infinite with the unlimited scrap BYOS will only let me pick one piece of equipment/crew before it starts the game. I don't have the option to enter the shop again.

Btw: the unlimited scrap version loops back into the standard version after picking one option, so it's not unlimited. IE: you can grab 500 scrap once and only if it's the very first thing you do, after that the scrap option will not appear again.

That's with the CE infinite "unlimited" scrap version.
