Seems like the most difficult part of the challenge is just finding the weapons. I know that I've run ships with ion and beam combinations and they're super easy to win with. I especially liked ion weapons plus the fire beam. Use the ion weapons to get the shields down and then watch the enemy crew ...

Yikes that would be tough to handle considering they'd be teleporting 8 crew or all 12 onto your ship fairly quickly. Level 2 fighting skill mantis are nothing to laugh at either. I love zoltan crewmen because I always end up with maxed reactor energy by the end of the game. So, the only way to power more systems is to have zoltan crewmen.

the hull was not breeched (not even close) I'm curious what you mean by not even close. Are you thinking about the hull damage meter at the top, because you can have full hull at the top and still have a hull breach. The hull breaches are damage in rooms that you see by looking at your ship's layou...

I never try to fight the spiders. It seems like even when you succeed the reward is small. I either leave them to their fate or use a blue option if available.
