So, this thread starts out with one guy complaining that the game is too cruel and dishes out unfair 'instant death' too often to be fun, and evolves into discussions about how the game is easy ... ;) Me, I still lose often enough on Normal to be on my toes, so to speak, and not take it for granted ...

Upgrading engines is the first thing I go for; not just to boost evade, but also to help FTL outta there ASAP when I'm seriously overmatched and/or taking more damage than the encounter is worth. Another layer of shields is next, unless I get lucky at a store or encounter and a really useful weapon ...

Also, the Crystal cruisers and their crewmen are very badly designed compared to the others. Layout B takes the cake - enemies are untouchable or trivial, neither makes for fun gameplay. I wouldn't say they're badly designed at all; they just present different challenges and advantages to the other...

There can be no 'risk/reward' equation to fighting elites in vanilla FTL; being able to hang around sectors endlessly and gain scrap from fighting the rebel fleet over and over would completely unbalance the game, as players could max out a ships systems by the end of sector 1. If you've got no oxygen heading to/around a crew member, you've got bigger problems then them not 'hearing' a fire! I personally think there should be a big red alarm indication that comes up when you've got a fire on board, same as for when you get boarded. It's a pain when your sensors are down or...

Meh, yeah but it's 120 scrap, and it only works for your first volley. If that misses, or doesn't get through shields, or doesn't do much damage, its got no value for the rest of the battle. Gimme an autoloader any day, except maybe, maybe, for the DA-SR12, though an autoloader is damn useful on tha...
