The lesson we can take away from this: Ignoring good weapons you find in stores is never a good idea in almost any ship.

Note: This does not mean it is a good idea to fight the flagship with no shields. Using offence as your main defense is effective but don't neglect shields or engines either.

So, I'm trying to make a mod that adds a lot of new weapons, drones, ships and possibly events. The story is that a FTL jump created a portal, and brung all(some of) the space craft from 1950-2015 to the world of FTL. I may change this and set it in our solar system, but this would be a lot harder, ...

Flack 2's are not that good. Just get a second Flack 1. But ions are always fun.

Also, if you're focusing on the artillery, Fed B starts with Lvl 2.

I don't really like the crystal ships, and find them hard to play. I love crystal boarding, but I only seem to get AI ships, trying to warn the fleet, too close too a sun, when I play as Crystal B. I don't know about A, but I find B to be a pretty hard ship. I mean, it's OK, but definitely not the b...

Yeah, sorry, but a flak 2 is far less dangerous than 5 burst lasers 2. Flak 2 = 7 shots, less accuracy. 5 burst lasers 2 = 15 shots, normal accuracy. So it wouldn't fit for an escalating ship. 7 flack 2s could work... 7 flak 2s = 49 shots, low accuracy. But that could be too hard... I don't really k...
