Smexy: Board with all 3 Crystal Crew to start if you're boarding an enemy that 2 Crystal Crew cannot dispatch by themselves. Then you don't care at all if your Teleporter or anything else is hit by a missile.

The main issue with the Shield Drone is that it requires 3 power and is less useful than a Defense Drone I on average, which only requires 2 power. Like the Defense II it can block things the Defense I cannot, but it's also only up every 8 seconds at best while a Defense I can fire every second and ...

Laser weaponry is the main thing that's good in all builds throughout the game. Even Burst I (or its variants, Chain I and Charge I) are perfectly fine weapons that will serve you well.
