OMG The new asteroid fields are a death sentence!

I just had a run-in with the new improved asteroid fields, and died very quickly. Fires all over the ship, the crew died from asphyxiation, the ship was at 15% health, and most systems were in the red. It's at least as bad as warping into a sun, possibly worse.

One shield is definitely not enough.

Usually I name the pilot, and treat him as my avatar. This includes moments where I've lost my pilot in combat and felt like the game was over.

It could make an interesting Event outcome, but I wouldn't want it to be a combat mechanic.

As an event, it would be interesting to have one random room containing a crew member breached, and lose that crew member. But I don't know if the game engine currently supports that level of detail.

Are event probabilities fixed to one chance each?

Can some events be more likely than other events, or are all outcomes equally likely?

[edit] According to this wiki entry the method for altering chances is to add an event multiple times to give it more weight.

Something that could improve the skill/luck ratio would be if the main sector map listed what each sector actually was, so you could make plans as early as your first jump. If you know that there's NO OPPORTUNITY to reach a Mantis homeworld sector, then that game is not going to be about trying to g...

Train up one guy as your weapons guy. As he gains experience, he contributes to your weapons. I'm not sure if it's an increased toHit chance, but it seems the most likely use of that xp to me.

This feature was pretty cool in Space Empires IV. But that was a long and involved game, with many things going on at the same time. That would make things too easy + complicate something that now is pure and simple yet complicated enough to be fun. I must disagree with the assessment that it would be too easy. Leveling up the oxygen system would require power, a limited resource. But I do see that it removes a reason to choose ...
