Rant about Mists of Pandaria...

So I watched the Mists of Pandaria trailer today. When the original WoW release hit, I was in school. I remember watching the original cinematic trailer . It was a direct continuation of the story I'd loved in Warcraft 3. I waited months until after graduation to pick it up and had a blast. Though w...

Re: Unlocking new ships is way too difficult

"Savescumming" FTW! :) I don't want to download someone else's profile, but I have no qualms about restoring an earlier version of my own. I also have 2 kids and can only play games 4-5 hours a week, so spending 40+ hours is not an option for me - I need a faster pacing, and allowing mysel...

Re: Unlocking new ships is way too difficult

Same here...I want to unlock ships, but don't know what I can do to make that happen. I got a Voltan ship, but I don't even remember what I did to get it! =P Oh, and I got the Fed Cruiser somehow...I think that might be a reward for beating the game on easy, which I did once (have yet to win on norm...

Re: BEAM balance discussion

Beams are all about timing, but it's true they are 100% useless on their own. I love the Voltan ship that starts with a power 2 beam (Halberd?) - you just need to find *any* other weapon to pair with it before enemies start running with 2 shields. If you don't find a second weapon by end of sector 2...

Re: Is FTL a one payment?

Um...single payment.

It's a small single player indie game made mostly by two guys, not an MMO. :)

Re: No saves is not fun.

Just backup the savefile yourself. You can find the save file location in the sticky. There's your option of saving every step whenever you want. +1 Allowing easy saves isn't in the spirit of the game, but you can still have them. I will admit to backing up a save game just before jumping to sector...

Re: Unfair

Wait...you can fight your way through the rebel fleet and keep going if they catch you?!?

I've played a bunch of games and never let them catch me before...I always assumed it was just game over.
Ok, now I gotta try getting caught on purpose.

Re: Dev's Clarity of Vision

Hopefully, they will continue to expand and improve on the game in a way that's consistent with it's unique character. Lots of people want bigger scope or a sandbox/big galaxy exploration. EV Nova, SPAZ, and Gratuitous Space Battles are all great games that have taken different approaches. But FTL i...

Re: Losing the game should happen faster

TL;DR. (no offense, maybe I will later) Anyway, IMO FTL is like solitaire in that not every game is winnable, and that's just fine. Of course, if you use savescumming every game is definitely winnable. But a perfect player is not enough to guarantee victory - it requires an omniscient, perfect playe...

Re: Oregon Trail is not a Rougelike

Yeah, it's true this game has a lot in common with Oregon Trail. :) One of the things I've been thinking about is how little reward/incentive there is in "playing it safe" most of the time, since if you are too cautious and fall behind the scrap/power curve you basically doom yourself. In ...
