Doors subsystem upgrade: LASER DOORS. Step through, just see what happens. Wouldn't nullify the transporter entirely but it would limit its effectiveness.

Like this idea. But it's a bit heavy. Think perhaps it could be that all your crew have slightly different talents and focuses. Being a marine in this case would simply be a matter of having more armor, lower speed, higher damage, lower repair, etc. perhaps crew level up in their various attributes ...

I'm all for cantinas and space bar fights, but this could be accomplished through fully textual means, without having to create graphics better spent on adding more ships.

I'm backing Stardrive via Desura, and boy oh boy was I disappointed. It's not very fully baked at the moment. I'll check back in next year, as it's a very cool concept, but right now it just makes me want to reinstall EV Nova. Or go back in time to the OnLive demo of FTL. Those were the days.
