Re: I feel like this game has too much correct play.

Another example: There is never a reason to destroy a ship as opposed to boarding it. It's the correct play to get a teleporter as soon as you can, as it'll more than pay for itself. It's the correct play to board every ship and win via boarding action in every situation. You get more scrap, you ge...

Yes. Sometimes the drink is drugged. Your crew wakes up unharmed, but the slugs have looted your holds and stolen a nice chunk of your scrap.

Re: in data.dat, how to find out what each sector has event

No, it's all on the data file. The events you are looking for are called ZOLTAN_CREW_STUDY and ROCK_CRYSTAL_BEACON. Zoltan Crew Study shows up in the Engi and Zoltan sector lists, and ROCK_CRYSTAL_BEACON is in the rock home sector. It's easy to find specific events if you can remember a snippet of t...

Re: Stasis Pod Distribution

It's all in the data.dat file. Just go to your resources fold and you'll find it. It's easily readable with any text editor (just don't try to actually edit anything that way or you'll break the compiled code). I've been trying to direct people to it because it answers about 95% of the questions bro...

Re: Stasis Pod Distribution

Here are the hard numbers. The stasis pod is found in the ASTEROID_DERELICT_SHIP event. This event is in turn called by the following three event lists: NEUTRAL_ENGI, NEUTRAL_PIRATE, NEUTRAL_ROCK. These lists are only called by Engi, Pirate, and Rock sectors. You can't find the pod in the first sect...

Re: Oregon Trail is not a Rougelike

The more I play this, the more I agree with the OPs assessment that this feels more like a series of slot machine spins than a strategy game. The the issue isn't that bad things happen to you (bad events are suitably telegraphed and easy to avoid), it's that you either get enough combat encounters a...

Re: "Small, six-legged, horse-like animals"

so all of the events are in the data.dat file? well I'ved played over 50 games and well I was thinking of creating a guide or at least find out what are all the options available for each event, or at least start recording them, but if I could just open this file up and read them all, that would sa...

Re: Oregon Trail is not a Rougelike

As someone who has enjoyed the game, I agree with most of the OP's remarks, perhaps minus the tone. Oregon Trail is an apt comparison. My biggest complaint is that combat lacks depth and once you assemble a good array of weapons and crew, you find yourself winning each repetitive battle using the sa...

Re: Benifits of killing the crew?

Well, no not exactly. You can peer through the data files and see what the results are. Generally, capturing a ship gives you one level higher of a reward (ranked from low, medium and high) than destroying it would. The rewards for destruction are completely independent of the damage done to the ship.

You don't need the long ranged scanners augment you just need scanners to be level 2 or higher
