Re: Stealth ship is garbage
Ya i guess that's another problem. I haven't seen the emp bomb once yet with this ship which would help significantly. The RNG is too great to give a ship a specific role for this game as it is. i.e. Missile boats, stealth ships, drone ships. You can pick the drone ship setup and get missiles all d...

Aye. I know exactly what you mean. I just posted a whole rant on how FTL is not a rougelike.

Re: Stealth ship is garbage
The first time I beat the game was with the stealthship, without shields even. Stupid RNG never gave me an opportunity to buy them. As long as the RNG doesn't throw drones at you, you can flawlessly KO most early ships with the starting equipment. The mini beam can take out shields AND weapons on ma...

Re: Oregon Trail is not a Rougelike
Also, just as a point of order: you do know that you can run from an encounter, right? With your engines upgraded and manned by your own personal Montgomery Scott, it's not even that hard to hold out long enough to get your jump-drive up and evacuate from Dodge City... No shit. I just said the only...

Oregon Trail is not a Rougelike
Finally managed to beat the game. RNG finally lined up for most encounters, all the right gear popped up at the right times, and most random events actually paid off. I finally realized this game has more in common with Oregon Trail than rougelikes. It has the "key features" of a rougelike...

Re: Intended difficulty?
drones and shields, God help you if they have drones AND high shielding. That's how my furthest games, like 2 systems away from the end, always end. And of course they have engi repairing shields constantly, when I finally manage 1 point of damage. I don't think I've ever landed a missile past a mi...

Re: Intended difficulty?
1. Always have a missile or bomb weapon on your ship at all times. Even if it's not powered, have it available. That's what you use to take down the shields of higher-level ships, because missiles and bombs ignore shields. Once the shields are down, keep up the fire on them to keep them suppressed,...

Re: My review of the game (ala Linux)
3. About 50% of the game is flat out luck, if you get a good start you win, if not you don't. That is too random. This. I've had too many games end in just the first few system due to things well beyond my control. Other games I get a good weapon strategy going early with an early drop/find/purchas...

Re: Intended difficulty?
So it really is not particularly possible to beat the game with straightforward firefights? This would be why it seems so easy to fall behind in comparison to enemy upgrades? So far all my playthroughs end where I jump one more system and suddenly can't damage anything. Once I'm forced to flee an &q...
