Only pay scrap to recruit an 8th crewmember in sectors 7 or 8. You want that last slot open most of the time so that you can benefit from "gain a crew" events. Exception would be if it's going to make the difference in pulling off "kill the crew" combat wins that reward extra sc...

While it's within the bounds of a roguelike, the emergence of strategies like this is often considered a game design flaw as it rewards boring behavior. For example the designers of Stone Soup Dungeon Crawl put a lot of effort into designing a training-based skill system that rewarded really playing...

It's not as elaborate as you envision above, but if you defeat a ship without destroying it, there is a chance to acquire a crewmember.

Mindset is key. The game is meant to be lost -- a lot -- so that beating it is an accomplishment. Not even elite roguelike players win more than 50% of their chosen game. (And when they approach that, they typically make more challenging initial choices to make their game harder to win.) Skill reduc...

I paused a battle for lunch, came back to find it had unpaused somehow, killed my opponent on Autofire, and lost all but my non-breathing crew member due to 0% O2. Cat, or bug?
