Engi A. I've had my most successful runs with this ship. I love the starting weapons. Ion Blast II fires quickly and helps to get weapon skills maxed by sector 4 or 5 easily. Can keep level 3 shields down easily coupled with only the Anti-Ship I. Fantastic ship.

Next favorite goes to the Stealth Ship for being challenging and a fun way to play the game.

Mantis B is a blast if you get plenty of mantis crew. Nothing more satisfying than boarding 4 mantis, 2 boarding drones, then when the teleporter cools down, teleporting 4 more boarders! Few manned ships can hold up against dealing with ten boarders.

My favorite ship is the unknown 9th ship, if you don't want any spoilers about it, skip this post :P

I would have to say the crystal cruiser A, though I havent unlocked B yet but from what i see its more of a boarding based ship.

The crystal weapons are a force to be reckoned with, the starting weapons on the Bravais (Crystal Burst I and Crystal Heavy I), if used with good timing, can be used to take out a ship with 3 shields

In addition, crystal crew members are powerful boarders due to their lockdown ability, this is especially helpful in the final boss, as you can keep the rebels from ganging up on you or fleeing to their super-charged medbay

There aren't too many downsides, although an enemy with decent defense drones can really be a pain, because even a defense drone 1 can knock down crystal lasers, that and with the long charge time of weapons you may take a hit from a rocket before your guns can take out their weapons.
If you are lucky enough to get the rock home-world, you can activate the crystal beacon again without having to find a stasis pod first and get to the crystal sector, allowing you to stock up on the super-powerful and relatively inexpensive crystal weapons, 20 scrap for the Crystal Burst 2 :o

Lastly, the layout of Crystal A allows you to vent every single non-system room without having to vent any rooms your crew would likely be in (including all manned systems, teleporter and medbay) This allows you to effectively weaken or kill any living intruders, making them easy to finish off.

However, if you are very unlucky and have a hard time unlocking the mystery ship, I like the kestrel's B layout, the 4 lasers keep you set until at least the 5th sector, at which point you need to start upgrading or else you will never beat the boss, but otherwise it is a good all-rounder ship

Just to let you know, the B Layout makes anti-boarding even more of a joke. Long corridor with airlocks in two different places along the way. With the crewmen's ability it's almost cruel. I nearly never have to fight any boarders, unless it's for experience.

Do we have a least favorite ship discussion? I loathe Rock A. Starting out with two missile weapons is terrible. Even with the 28 missile to start, I still end up losing almost all of them by the time I get to the middle of the second sector and I've never been able to find a good weapon by chance, or at a store with this ship. I've had more successful starts wit Engi B and with the stealth ship than with this one.

Mantis B Basilisk is the best workhorse for quick win. Simply put all you need is to buy a single heavy laser by selling boarding drone and ship augment and you all set for victory. Because you have 2 shields and def drone 1 you hardly receive any damage in first 2 sectors. Only problems before you get any weapon is zoltans as you can destroy even auto-scouts and auto-assault ships with boarding drone and teleport lvl2.

Rock B - Shivan

- Early on the Heavy Pierce Laser can defeat anything, since enemies generally don't have over 1 shield for the first two sectors.

- As soon as you get a teleporter, and perhaps a little extra crew, two of your four starting Rocks can become a boarding party. Later on you could even have a second pair of Rocks for cycling sorties / defending / reinforcing.

- The Fire Bomb can work in conjunction with Rock boarders - start a fire, teleport in, and have the fires simultaneously damage enemy systems and crew members and spread while your Rocks prevent the enemy from putting them out, dish out even more hurt, and tank anything they can bring. Medbays are no problem - the fire knocks them out.

- The ship in the meantime just really needs defensive upgrades - so just keep upgrading shields and engines, and acquire defense drones and perhaps a cloak and you'll have a total tank. The Rock Plating is also nice to have.

- Boarding gives more rewards than ship destruction, and it's satisfying to leave a trail of burnt-out and scrapped down husks of ships in your path.

- Any additional weapons and augments you get just add more power, but there's nothing you really -need- to look for.

- The lack of doors and airlocks doesn't really hurt much given your crew of 4 starting Rocks, and their slow speed doesn't really hurt much given the compact layout. And when they're on enemy ships, they don't need them to move much, just stand in an inferno, punch out anyone they meet, and then clean up some mostly dead burnt-out enemies afterwards.

- It looks cool, and feels cool, and I love the Rock aliens in general. :D

If I can do mod ships than it has to be the Athena from DID, otherwise I like Fed A or Zoltan A the most, although the only ones that I have are Kestrel A & B, Engi A & B (Engi B sucks during early game) Zoltan A and Fed A & B.

I would have to say either the mantis ship B or the crystal ship A, The mantis ship B has a boarding drone and a 4 person teleporter but you have to sell the defense drone and buy more mantis as fast as you can, I got to the last fight killed all of the crew but the flagship had AI. I couldn't get past the super shields on the last fight so I lost. The crystal ship on the other hand has shield piercing (albeit one shield piercing) crystal launchers which are good until you get to 3 shield enemy's and you end up waiting until both weapons are charged. now that I think about it the mantis B in my opinion is better. I would post a whole other post but i'm too lazy to type something like this again. :D.

I used to like Fed A, but it turned out to be kinda boring after a while; it's just too much a ship-annihilating juggernaut without too many things to do, and after playing it for a while, you just know what to do to win the game. And usually, I win the game with it (given that RNG doesn't TOTALLY screw me over in the first two or three sectors). And Fed B is in my opinion pretty much just another Osprey but inferior in almost every possible way (except for L2 Artybeam and rare starting crew). But it may just be that I have played the Osprey too much already.

Stealth ships (especially A) are fun to play, because you have to be aware of your enemy, know when to cloak, how to fire your weapons... It's just so great a challenge :)

Kestrel B is also fun ship, I love its versatility, potential and how it truly adapts to just about any upgrade you get.

Also, Mantis B and boarding crew of four mantis by sector 2  Problem?

I like the fact that this game has 18 unique, well-balanced ships (well, some are of course better than others), every one of them capable of beating the flagship but none of them guaranteed to win.

TL;DR: I really love Kestrel B and Stealth A :D
My fleet so far:
Kestrel A, Kestrel B, Engi A, Engi B, Rock A, Rock B, Stealth A, Stealth B, Fed A, Fed B, Zoltan A, Zoltan B, Mantis A, Mantis B, Slug A, Slug B, Crystal A, Crystal B
Green is victory, on normal
