Is it possible to save and close the game automatically via mod?

I'd like to make a mod for myself to save and shut the game down after I've cleared a sector to shake me out of the FTL trance long enough to get some sleep.

But before I start reading tutorials I just want to ask, is this technically possible? I would also be cool with crashing the game as long as it's still saved, if that's easier haha.
