I just lost 2 men doing this! Cockpit red, send in two people to fight and then the enemy ship took off. But the problem was that they had a systems repair drone, which doesnt fight, it simply kept repairing while being destroyed and I think it finished before it was destroyed. Not sure though, I made up this explanantion after I was confused for a while.

Breach missiles with their 22 secs cooldown/lockon are almost slowest weapons in game. You need smth fast, not smth powerful. Artemis can fire twice as fast.

I don't understand the part about drones - i got the smallest slug ship, without doors to engine nor room for drone system.
Ion is also useful. Afaik I did that with Torus - destroyed shields and ioned the engines, and off they didn't go.

(in older versions there is a bug sometimes allowing enemy to jump even without operational helm. Go for the engines.)

You must have been really unlucky then!

I am very sure a ship cannot escape without it's cockpit. However, I suspect their ftl drive charges in a different manner than ours do. I've had fights where I had the cockpit and/or engines turned off most of the time, but spent a fair bit of time fighting the enemy. Then they have repaired cockpit/engines and jumped away instantly. It might be my imagination, but to me it seems like they charge the ftl no matter what, and only need the cockpit/engine for the actual jump. Only speculation of course.

Could also be a bug like the poster above mentions. Haven't heared about it though.

The slug ship has amazing anti-crew capabilities. The bio beam kills most crew in 2 shots (rocks in 3), the dual lasers takes out shields in the first few sectors and if the enemy has a medbay wait for guys to go in there and drop a breach bomb. Kill all the crew without the risks of boarding! (This is not to say the normal risks don't apply, person who is inevitably going to write some "I tried this ship but X happened so it must suck" response.) Slug ship is definitely in my top 3 favorites. (with the Zoltan ship and the Red-Tail)

I finally got the quest to go to the construction platform in order to unlock the cruiser.

However, when I got there, there was no blue option, even though I had level 3 sensors.

Is a Slug crewmember a requirement to get the blue option?

I had the same problem the first time, so I rushed in. You have to try and tail the ship first, THEN a blue option should appear.

So I was ONE option away from getting it, and I picked the wrong one????

Kill me now, please.

I have done 20+ runs specifically for ship unlocks and I can't get Slug, Unidentified, or STEALTH, of all things.

All I need to do is have an Engi and go to the right beacon in Engi Homeworld, but EVERY time, I hit every beacon BUT the correct one :)

I did like 30 runs dedicated to the mantis ship alone. So I feel your pain. :)

I got the slug cruiser first try that I stumbled across the event, though that was probably because it happened at the end of sector 7 and I had an incredibly powerful setup. I'd suggest using bombs and missiles to take out its drive so it can't get away. That usually seems to work.
