Yeah, I know that killing the entire enemy crew save for one during the first phase, where there's relatively little nonsense to deal with, can make the second and third phases a cakewalk.

That doesn't make it any better designed. It just means the best strategy is a tedious loophole.

It also is not an option if your crew is full of engis and zoltans and not too good at boarding.

Gathering the means of disposiong of the boss is one of the goals of the game. Not allways possible tho. Twice i reached a stalemate. :(
