Everything $0.00 i think that DLC is some bullshit that some millionaire asshole made up to screw people out of money. Everyone else realized how much they could make and started doing it to. If you want to add content to your game due it. Don't release an "unfinished" game. DLC is stupid.

Now for an EXPANSION(for everyone old enough to remember REAL expansions) I would happily pay $5.00-9.99. Yes that's right up to the same price of the game. As long as it provides enough content.

I wouldn't pay any for DLC. I might've done the soundtrack, but I unpacked resources.dat and extracted the music from there because FTL's music is brilliant :)

I love this game but I'm very reluctant to go the way of DLC with it. When I noticed they were looking to get $10,000 to make and release the game and then received $200,000 my first thought was "aww man, that's awesome! What are they gonna do with all the extra money?" Then after searching the web to see what the plans were and not finding anything I started getting worried that FTL would not go any further than what it is. I really hope they don't go with any DLC and if they do I probably wouldn't pay for it. I can see people being mad about it and waiting for the community to start releasing mods for the game.

I'm all in - utterly hooked and ready to throw fistfuls of cash at the devs for any and all content updates.

Best game of 2012! Loving this game hard right now.

BF2 costs 20$ with all the stuff and it doesn't give you any advantage when doing so.
And BF2 is even moddable, while BF3 is a lot harder (or impossible) to mod because the developers/puplisher wants YOU to buy all new Battlefield's + DLC's which are totally going to be the same as BF3 just with other maps.

Not trying to argue about your core point about DLC prices, but you don't need to spread misinformation about the BF series. What I mean is:

BF3: $60 game + $50 Premium = $110

BF2: $60 game + $10 for each booster pack (x2) +$30 Special Forces = $110

BF1942: $60 game + $20 Road to Rome + $30 Secret Weapons = $110

And Premium gives you no advantage over other players. I don't know where you got that idea from.

This is really the attitude that's going to do in gaming. Ever watch someone play one of those 'social' games where when you run out of energy you can pay for more? How about Squaresoft's 'core' service where you earn game time by watching advertisements? That's the future you are supporting.

The best argument I ever heard on the subject is simply, "What does this do for gaming?" Sure, it does plenty for developers and publishers. But what does it do for the games? Look at a site like GOG, or take a look at all the abandonware and roms floating around. These are all games that make up gaming history. What about today's games? Where will Diablo 3 be? Nowhere. Where will WoW come in? Nowhere. What if Steam goes down? How about all those games? Gone. All these draconian DRM measures, DLC schemes and pay-to-play pricing methods ensure these games will disappear. Well, the ones they don't resell us anyways. The games from my youth, games I fondly remember and fire up now and again still exist. I can buy a crate of NES cartridges for a dollar and play them all. Yet, the games of TODAY threaten to just up and vaporware, discarded as soon as a publisher sees them as 'no longer profitably viable'. Missing activation codes and online passes or deactivating DRM authentication services ensure it just drops off the map. And all this DLC? Gone as soon as its no longer hosted. Go on, fire up Mass Effect 3 ten years from now and tell me how its doing. I think without XBox Live to authenticate your data, you'll find it rather depressing indeed.

Haha I wouldn't pay a dime for dlc. I never buy dlc for an indie game. Ever. For indie games and even for big company games I always expect free updates, but alas that rarely happens. Sine this is an indie game I expect it all to be free updates. That's just how it should be... I wouldn't pay for a ship cause I can just mod new ships. I wouldn't pay for soundtracks, new races, or anything cause its call doable via mods or whatever.

You can hardly blame the players/gamers/users, You should be blaming the providers. When someone gets really hooked on a game, they want the latest and greatest from it. If DLC comes out for 5 dollars for a game, then the person is gonna pay 5 dollars, because to him that's a ton more enjoyment.

I really wish we could just have expansion packs like the old days, but you should be blaming the providers, not the consumers.

They'd be better off lumping all the things together and calling it an expansion pack, if they had to/wanted to sell it. If they were going to put a couple new ships (with cool gimmicks even), events, a race or two, and maybe a campaign all together?

Ten bucks. Or five. I'd throw more money at them for nothing because I love this game <3

In a commercial/capitalist society demand sets the course for development. (if producers sets the course it would be a socialist/communist society)

As long as the producer can sell it there is no reason for them to stop. So it's as much the consumers fault for buying into it as it is the "providers" for selling it. More in fact as every producer needs to adapt to the market to keep up. why would they adapt a less profitable method if everyone else is generating huge amounts of income using the other method?

The only way to really change is to stop making the undesirable methods profitable. to stop letting the publishers/distributors squeeze every penny out of you.
