Favorite Weapon?

We had a "favorite ship" thread on here somewhere, so how about a favorite weapon? What's that one weapon/augment/drone/whatever that's just hilarious and fun to use? Or one that's saved your bacon more times than you can count?

Fun: Anti-Bio Beam, Fire Beam, beams in general

Useful: Small Bomb. I can not overstate how useful it is to be able to simply slap a bomb on the enemy shield, just like that.

My favorite weapon to use on an every day basis is the BL2. 3 shots, 2 power, decent charge time. I think it's the best utility weapon in the game.
My favorite weapon to use when everything is going my way and I have exactly the setup for it has got to be the Fire Beam. There is nothing more fun than your rockmen beating the crap out of the crew of a ship while every single room is on fire.

Maybe the question should be "what is your favorite weapon besides the Burst Laser Mk II?" :)

I'm not sure I have just one. I like the Halberd Beam, because it does more damage than the Pike Beam, so you don't have to knock down all the Shields. Yeah, it's shorter, but I think that's good, because late game, I see enemy shields recovering before the Pike is done. Also, it's a good complement for combinations of Burst Lasers/lesser Ion Blasts other than multiple Mk IIs.

Ion Blast Mk II is awesome for its quick fire rate, and you can leave it on autofire while boarding, and your Weapons officer picks up experience quickly. You can even train a backup officer. Small Bomb is a great complementary weapon.

I haven't used the Fire Beam a whole lot. Whenever I play the Rock B, it doesn't seem to come up that much. :( I think one would really help to set a whole ship on fire, which I haven't done on Normal. Other times when it has come up, I don't have all Rock boarders.

Auto Reloader is probably my favorite augment. Once I bought a second one late game with the Osprey, and my recently maxed Artillery Beam was sooooo fast. :twisted: Weapon Pre-Igniter is great, but only if you have the right weapon combo.

I do like the Recovery Arms, because they're so useful. Defense Drone Mk I is by far my most used drone.

I wonder what it would be like if you had 3 Sys-Repair drones on Engi Cruiser B. Just leave the entire ship (except for the pilot area) always depressurized and just let the drones fix the damage done by boarders before they suffocate and die. Only problem is, if your Drone Control room is bombed, you're screwed!

Engi B would be so much better if Drone Control was literally right next to the pilot area. Or you had multiple Drone Control areas. Heck, give Engi B the healing augment Engi A has and use the Engi B Medbay as another Drone Control. The Rebel Flagship has four (!!!!) different weapon rooms, so why not a mod making this two-DroneControl room ship?

If you want your Engi to get repair experience after a battle, you just close the doors you need to and wait for there to be enough air.

You could mod the ship and swap the Shields and Drone Control if you wanted to.

My absolute favorite has to be the Ultrasonic Cannon from Descent into Darkness. It pierces all shields, causing a breach and one system damage per shot, and it fires so fast you barely see it. It's OP as hell since you can prevent automated ships from repairing, and suck the O2 out of any enemy ship, but popping an enemy with a dozen holes is too awesome to worry about how easy it makes your run. My second favotire is the Ion Burst mark 2 from the Captain's Edition mod. It's a BL2 that does ion damage instead of normal damage. It's not as powerful as the Ion Blast 2, but three shots makes a hit more likely and with another ion weapon or a reloader it stays effective even in late game.

My favorite weapon from the base game is the dual laser. BL2 gives you three laser shots for two power, but the dual laser gives you two shots for only one power. Dual laser is the most efficient weapon in the game. If the devs had included them in stores, (you can only get them in normal game from choosing two ships at start,) then two of these would beat the firepower of a BL2 and fire faster. Three of them would equate dual BL2s but be faster and give you an extra energy bar for elsewhere. Four of these little monsters would give you eight fast-charging lasers, (more than enough to beat everything,) for only four power.

Most powerful? Easily Ion Bomb #1 and Burst Laser II #2.

Favorite? Mini Beam.

I wish I could have 4 drone slots. Because I only have one crew member to start with (the pilot), I have to keep the two Sys-Repair drones, which leaves a tough choice for the third drone.

Anti-Personnel
Pro: Almost like having a Rock crew member to tank damage from those damned Mantis boarders.
Con: Takes two energy and is as slow as a Rock without Engi B's special "drone speed" augment. However, it still goes down like everything else if two or more Mantis gang up on him.

Another Sys Repair
Pro: Why not? Each only takes one energy, and you'll have a lot less to worry about, especially during situations where the enemy missiles damage multiple systems. Two Sys-drones are almost like one Engi that doesn't need oxygen.
Con: Provides no defense against boarders, and no offense, period.

Anti-Ship
Pro: You can continue to attack even if your weapons are ion'd/destroyed.
Con: Mk.I can't do crap against shields, Mk.II is better, but still has fairly low damage.
