[Pilots] The Omega Pilots
Posted: Mon Jun 18, 2018 8:06 am
When the war was reaching its conclusion, we needed as many pilots as possible on the front lines. These are some exceptional heroes we found...
Introducing the Omega Pilots, a bunch of pilots from unusual circumstances. Right now there are only four pilots though but I do have plans for a few more. They can be found hopefully in any Time Pod that drops onto the map. Each one has some rather unique abilities.
John Karlsson The Hobo
We don't know much about Ralph's timeline, but we do know they did some very regretful things to their people. John Karlsson was one such person. A former Mech pilot, he was subjected to some crazy brain-altering chemicals as part of an anti-Vek supersoldier program. It didn't take and he now sees conspiracies everywhere and lives on the street as a hobo.
He found himself in a Time Pod and is now piloting Mechs again.
His special ability is called "Yammer" which flips Vek attacks in a nearby radius and repairs his Mech. It's like Harold except it flips instead of pushes essentially.
Harvey Eastwood the Cowboy
Harvey is a man of few words. He claims to be from R.S.T and is a very good Mech pilot and marksman. Rumour has it he used to be the CEO of R.S.T before he was ousted by Kern and the others but because of his personality, he doesn't have an answer for it.
His special ability is "Shootout" which attacks two tiles in front of him for 1 damage each tile and pushes both of them. This replaces his repair so try not to get him set on fire as he can't put it out.
Skynet The Viral AI
AI Pilots are a strange thing to have on a Mech. This one in particular managed to upload himself and learn much like an organic pilot would.
His special ability is called "Worm" where he overloads the repair fabricators with a custom nano-virus that also replenishes his ammunition supply. So put stuff like tanks or missile barrages on him.
Michael Poe, Esquire
Detritus hasn't had the best records in occupational health and safety. So how does Vikram avoid lawsuits every time someone falls into an ACID Pit while riding a conveyor belt or if a teleporter malfunctions or if a disposal unit misfires and melts a house instead of a mountain or if someone is dissolved by exposed ACID vats?
Well he has lawyers of course!
Michael Poe is one such lawyer on retainer who deals with those issues. He also likes to seek out new clients and has ties to the Sentient Engine Liberation Front.
His special ability is called "File Injunction" which cancels all Vek attacks around him and repairs his Mech. So like Harold except it stops Vek attacks instead of pushing.
Chekhov Alms The Soviet
Chekhov comes from a timeline where Communism won over Capitalism in the Cold War and now he fights for the glorious Union. Of course, when the Vek attacked, the Union was also struggling to fight them. In desperation, Dewey Alms sent his son back in time using a Time Machine he found at the bottom of the ocean. His goal was to warn the Union of the upcoming Vek invasion and prepare them. Of course, since most timelines are of Capitalism winning, Chekhov was in for a shock when he arrived in our timeline(s)...
His special ability is called "Union Armour" which reduces all incoming damage to 1HP. Anything that hits him that isn't lethal damage will only remove 1HP so it's good against Alphas and Bosses but bad against huge swarms of lesser Vek.
Otis Bradley The Preacher
Pinnacle is known for building a lot of different machines with different personalities. Otis Bradley was designed to be a leader to help guide the civilians out of harms' way during combat operations against the "sick" machines. However, the Vek invasion and the temporal radiation of the Breach caused his positronic matrix to go haywire and now he believes he is a religious figure under the guidance of "The Lord" which just so happens to be his commanding officer. So now he works loyally for you, bringing down retribution towards the heathens, heretics and unbelievers.
His special ability is "Retaliation" where if he takes damage and survives, he damages nearby enemies for 1 damage (2 if coated in ACID). He has to survive the hit so be very careful when doing self-damage or deliberately bumping him into Vek to do that extra bit of hurt. But it can be a very powerful ability if used correctly. Just let him believe he's channelling your wrath and it's not a faulty circuit...
Binah The Voidling
Binah was one of the first test pilots of the Breach technology under the guidance of Doctor Renfield. She was to activate a Breach and travel 5 seconds back in time but instead was thrown into the void between timelines. Due to improper shielding, the energies leaked into the pod and infused her with their power instead of outright killing her.
Now her Time Pod travels the Void, lured out by large concentrations of Renfield Energy that can be found in Vek blood and robotic power cores. The energy is needed to maintain her cohesion to the timeline and keep the Void from consuming her entirely.
She has seen a lot more of the world and beyond and thus can be very snarky about her job and certain mission objectives.
Her special ability is the Void Beam. Instead of repairing, she can instead fire a beam in a straight line that does 1 damage to all along the path, blocked by buildings or mountains. This however does damage her Mech.
Her Mech can be repaired though - attacking an adjacent tile with her ability instead leeches Renfield Energy from her target and heals her Mech and removes all status effects.
Chester Kern
Chester Kern was one of Jessica Kern's adopted children. He left R.S.T at a young age and travelled across the island chain, learning from the various organisations and CEOs. His technical expertise led him into the Pilot program which helped when the Vek attacked.
His special ability is the Repair Drone. Instead of a standard repair ability, Chester launches a special repair drone that can perform the duties of repairing and reviving units. However, these drones are expendable so after performing their task, they are destroyed. These drones can also be used as decoys for the Vek as those buggers will target anything hostile or as targets to be bumped into for that extra bit of damage.

Questions:
Q) Why are most of the pilots just recolours of...
A) Pixel art is not my forte.
Q) The repair icons haven't changed/tooltips
A) I don't know what's going on with those. No really, everything should show off what the abilities do but they don't right now. Also, there's a lot of code involved in changing the repair icon that I'm not willing to go into yet until I've seen more results from others.
Q) The mod doesn't work for some reason!
A) Well can't help you with that... I've run this mod with several others so maybe there's a hidden dependency I'm not aware of.
Some mods may have an outdated modApiExt folder. Copy the one in Omega to it.
Q) Where's that blue lady from your videos? Why isn't she on the roster?
A) Tabitha is a personal mod and will not be released publicly as a pilot.
Special Thanks:
Arfy for the initial scripting of the Hobo and the Lawyer's AOE. And for making Binah's ability possible.
Lemonymous for fixing up Arfy's code and providing the Union Armour, adjustments of Skynet's abilities and overall code testing.
