[MOD] Descent into Darkness - a major game overhaul

Descent into Darkness is a complete overhaul modification for FTL.
You do not start with a single ship loadout and play the game regularly.
Instead, you are given a barebones ship hull and pick your starting gear, crew, augments, everything.
There are 72 possible starting combinations - 4x more than the number of default ships in vanilla FTL!

Along with this unique change to the game mechanics, there are many, many graphical changes - from the loading screen to the main menu, the hangar, star map...

Naturally, this mod comes with unique weapons with some rather special animations.

Goes without saying that all of the stuff like gibs, room images, cloak graphic etc etc is all done, of course.

Mod compatibility:
This mod is not intended to be compatible with a lot of other things.
Anything with events is probably out of the question.
Background system/planet images should be ok.
Weapon graphic mods might work. Other stuff probably won't.
If you insist on running it alongisde other mods, make SURE you load this LAST in the list! Any part of this mod's content being overwritten will likely mess up the whole thing.

Do not waste your time leaving comments about balance or lack thereof. I do not care.

If it doesn't work for you then try reinstalling your FTL (check that it's the latest version), GMM etc. I have tested this on several computers, it works.

Finally, I would like to state that this will be the last mod I release. This is a large part of why I put so much effort into making it extra special. I hope you all enjoy it and remember me for it!

Looks really nice! title screen is awesome, ship looks great, the opening story is cool too!
I got the ultrasonic cannon, the hot plasma gun, security detail with drone, zoltan shield, augmented defense drone, and will deal with the rebels as law requires! :D

Yes, as it tells you at the start of the game, the structure of the events confuses the ship and makes it think it has max crew. So, you can pick them up from events, but you won't be able to purchase any.

Bren, I am impressed by your resolve not to buy cloak or teleport even though you had scrap and the stuff in shops in front of you like 5 times :lol: they were so cheap too!

This mod looks really interesting, I love the choices you make in the beginning to fill your ship.

I also love the date that it was released on, my 32nd birthday! 8-)

It is a shame that it's the last mod you're going to make for FTL though. :(

I've loved this game since it was gifted to me by a good friend in the beginning of September 2012 and after beating the game on both easy and normal (the only ship I haven't unlocked being that damn Crystal ship! :x , the RNG never seems to favor me...) playing with mods has given this game such a huge amount of replay-ability. I've only recently started trying "full conversions" of the game and yours is definitely next on my list.

I'll reply to this thread once I've played through the game using your mod.

Very nice concept and art style. Thumbs up.

Littel question: I started a run and got the Hardened Circuits and Kinetic System Casing augments at the start; at the first encounter, i got a couple of system damaged by a beam and noticed they began to slowly repair themselves... is this intended? it seems by the description they should have a different effect...

Too bad you won't be doing any more mods... i love the Scarab and Escort ships!

Yeah, same thing happened to me. It's nice when you have a boarding party though, to have everything repair itself. :P

Yes, this ship has automatic repair of systems, regardless of what starting choices you make. An extra bonus I chose to add, since it is a top of the line cruiser ;)

Didn't need it, sides, why would I want to hide from the Federation, and I don't need to go onto their ship when I am destroying it from the inside out
